i think drop c tuning goes like this... correct me if i am wrong..

standard>drop D>down a whole step?

so e a d g b e
then d a d g b E
then a whole step down?

just a little confused.

no putall of the strings down a whole step then put the E string down to C

It is better, IMO, to tune EVERY string down 2 (TWO) steps. All of your fingering stays the same and the overall sound is better.....thicker with more harmonic depth....but still very well defined.....blah blah.

BTW...."C" tuning is my personal favorite. I lOVE that sound..... :D

I think Joni used a dropped C for Carrie off of 'Blue'

C G C G C E

It's a really nice open sound.

make sure you put your action really high ... those loose "rubber" strings buzz like crazy ...

not my cup of tea!

Actually just buy a thicker guage string set and that will take care of it. I play s set of GHS strings that are geared just for Drop-C and they aren't loose one bit. Just as much tension as my guitar in standard E.

If your strings are buzzing in drop C, then you are not set up right! You either need different strings or to have your action adjusted.

wrong!

you need to set your guitar up specifically for dropC ... (asuming you use your same old strings)

there will be FAR less pull on the neck (having 6 strings detuned), so the relief will be different, also the strings will oscilate more, hitting frets left and right ...

its a matter of math to know that you need a new setup ...

if you dropC and dont need a new setup, than you original setup was out of whack !!

4 points I want to make:

1 - I don't know who would tune down to C with the same gauge strings as standard tuning......

2 - It is absolutely possible to go to heavier strings & tune down, and not need to change the guitar's set-up at all....I've done it many times.

3 - Heavier gauge strings tuned to C will not "flop around" and buzz any more than lower gauge strings in standard tuning.

4 - ...................okay, just 3 points..........

This is a good point. I've dropped my guitar down to a baritone tuning without adjusting anything just by purchasing a different gauge. I took it in and had it checked out, and they said thta everything was fine, not weird tension or anything.

The one thing abot C is that you need to make sure your amp is up for it. I have a friend that refuses to mess with his amp and when in C, it sounds like shit. I have another friend that drops it down there and it sounds amazing.

I guess I needed to be more specific, if your guitar is buzzing in drop c, then it is not set up right FOR DROP C. You need to get your guitar tech to set it up for you, if you are not comfortable adjusting the action\intonation etc, yourself.

i accidently posted the exact same thread twice. but now im getting twice the replies. :D
