Hi,
I recorded my voice and now I like to make it sound more airy and dreamy, like a stoned angel singing from the sky ;-)
I played a lot around with reverb and other effects, but somehow it still sounds like a normal guy in a normal room.
Anyone any idea, a special software, setting, filter, effect, whatever or recording technique to get a dreamy atmosphere?
Thanks

If you mean something like many shoegaze-songs, maybe you should try adding LOTS of reverb along with a slight phaser or flanger.

To add air you want to boost in the highs. But watch out for sybilance. I tend to boost in the highs and maybe cut the lows and low mids, then use a de-esser after the EQ.
And use a massive reverb.

I have found that the dreaminess is all in delay. You want reverb, but focus on getting swirly sounding delays. Usually I have 2 tracks of AUX delay if I'm going for an effect. One track is set with a delay that bounces randomly and loses bass frequencies as it decays. Another track is used for the same thing except it loses high frequencies as it decays. I'm sure there are free VSTs that will let you do this. I'll make a reverse reverb by copying the vocals to a new track, reversing it, adding reverb to the reversed audio (100% wet with reverb), then reversing the wet audio. The result is a swelling sound before each word.

I have found that the dreaminess is all in being VERY stoned while listening. It's never the same in the cold light of day.

thanks

Thanks to all your comments. I'll try the ideas and hopefully get the sound I was looking for.

Auto tune :D

Well not really that far off .... you want to make copies of the vocal track and detune them, some up and some down a bit .... as well as adding tons of reverb and delay at 200ms.

lol... I was thinking of recommending LSD...

Post a clip OP, I'm sure someone will "dreamy it up" for you...

Looking for this kind of thing?
John Lennon- #9 Dream - YouTube

Yeah, that's pretty close to what I'm looking for, a bit more distant.

I forgot to mention, getting a dreamy sounding vocal has a lot to do with how it is sung. You want to be singing without hard attacks in your voice. Rather you want your voice to slowly swell at the start of passages and try not to pronounce heavily.

Sing more quietly but push more air. Double the track as closely as you can. Compress the fuck out of them without creating artifacts and start rolling off LF until they sound right. Sometimes running an amp sim or something in parallel can give it a little fuzz and that can help.
