A standalone that records 8 tracks simultaneously at 24/96. It doesn't exist yet, right?

I've never used it...but the Akai DPS16i boasts it does just that all for a cozy $2000

The Fostex D1624 I have downstairs will do it, I think. I just use it in 24/48 mode, and I have never actually tried the higher rate because I want the full 16 tracks, but the manuals all say it will work. The D2424 is also supposed to be able to record 8 at 24/96. These machines become 8- and 12-track machines, respectively, when you set them up for 24/96 work. The 2424 can play back 12 tracks of 24/96, but can only handle 8 in record mode, as I understand it.

The D824 *may* do it also, but the info on the web site isn't really clear on it. Neither are the manuals, which are written in Fostex's wonderful Jinglish. The 1624 portions of the manual say that it acts like an 824 in 24/96 mode. what they _don't_ say is what the 824 acts like in 24/96, of course.

It'd be pretty trick if the 824 did 8 at 24/96. Several folks here have them. Anybody who has one know a definitive answer for this one?
