Dramatic Price drops in CDR's!!!

Good information. I imagine many items will come down in price due to the ecomony and the competition.

I'm remastering some old takes from my other recorders into the 2816 and just running out the stereo outs, analog, into cassette tape. Of course, any noise is better noise! However, the musical audio results have been worth the price of the unit. It's at the CD level. It's faster to do tape than a CD but when I get enough stuff on the hard drive, I'll do a CD. It's like one at a time to do the CD -- but, that's the unit.

I'll bet some better stuff will be available soon as the chips get stronger and the insides lighter. Pretty soon, just speak into the unit and tell it what you want to do and, Voila, it's done.

I don't get the purpose of standalones. Not when you have a computer.

Just me. Not my mind.
 
Why a stand-alone?

I primarily use a digital multitrack with TOS outputs.

I'd rather not have to take the extra steps needed to burn CD's from my computer.

All I have to do is hook up the stand alone and that's that.

My buddy Bob just picked up a TASCAM CDRW-700 for $400.

He thought his CDRW-5000 had gone south, but he just got a bunch of bad media.
Now he's got two really nice decks.
The 700 only has unbalanced -10 dB I/O while the 5000 has +4 dB balanced and unbalanced I/O. The 700 has coax and optical digital I/O. The 5000 has these and AES/EBU.
