Drag & Drop for Data CD Bundle backups?

Hi-

I think I beat this topic to death a few months ago but now I have a new twist on it:

Until I can decide/afford to buy some new burning software product, can I :
a) Drag & Drop copy a Bundle file from Cakewalk over to my external CD Drive?

b) Or could I put a CD in to the CD ROM (not a writer/burner) on my PC tower, Drag/Copy & Drop and get the same result? This is just Data CD for Bundle file Backup.

Also, any ideas on CD Burning software? My free Nero Express program is acting strangely.
It becomes "not responding" at the verification stage. It goes through the process normally up until then. Saying the "burn is 100% complete". It just started doing this, after several months of perfect operation
When I put the "100% successfully burned" but not "verified" CD into my CDROM on my PC Tower, it shows up on the CD and it looks like the proper # of Megs (?)

Is Nero to be avoided? Any ideas would be appreciated.

thanks

Huh???

How would you expect data to get copied to a CD you can't write to?

If you are running Windows XP, that has some CD burning capability built in. You can copy Bundle files to a CD-R as long as they don't exceed the storage capacity of the CD-R.

As for burning programs, Nero is the one that I usually hear recommended by everyone. Stay away from Roxio.

Personally, I use the burning capability that is built into Wavelab.

Why should you stay away from Roxio, Dach? It's really easy to use and produce the same CDs as Nero (as far as I know)...

well, I see now that I don't know what I'm talking about. My CD ROM must be only for playing CD ROMs and nothing else.

But, I have done the WinXP program and it seemed to work. I mean when I looked at the result, the bundle file had all its megs. Then I stopped using it because I thought it was cheap and no-good. (someone on some Board probably told me so, I'm so easily persuaded) Since its Data, the Win XP program shouldn't
find a way to muck up my file hopefully.

So I think that if Nero is widely trusted, I will look at it too when my time comes to making real Audio CD's.

thanks for the help

Because it was written by the Devil (just like Console View :) ).

While it is easy to use, it also interferes with your system at a very basic level, and can screw things up pretty well. It is not one of my favorite programs.

Try doing a search in the Computers and Sound Cards forum for Roxio, EZ CD, Direct CD, etc., and see some of the stuff that comes up. You can probably narrow the search by entering something like Roxio + Satan, or Not So EZ CD, or F'king Direct CD. :D

Alanfc, I have never used Nero, so I can't speak from personal experience, but I have seen it recommended on many forums. Usually when someone starts trashing Roxio, Nero is the recommended solution.

Bottom line is if Windows XP is doing the job for you, continue to use it. I think the only negative with it is that is has limited features. BUt if all you want to do is backup a file, what do you care.

We both know that if it's programmed like the Console View, it has to be a GREAT program... :D Ha!

Okay, I've only used Nero the past few years. I used Adaptec Easy CD Creator when it was version 2. But that's a few years ago...

The only problem with XP is when you want to copy a CD directly or burn an audio CD. I always recommend to install Nero besides the burner-functionality in XP. Look at it like this: You can write a letter in Notepad, but Word is a better tool for the job. ;)

thanks guys-
I'm going to get a real PAID version of something soon
