ear art's not a science
I just got a boss dr5 to help me with rhythm and after some initial struggles I think it will be worth the learning curve. I threw together a few patterns of drums keyboard and bass . Then I used the midi out to get the tracks into sonar.
I then played around with the soundfonts. after I was satisfied with the midi tracks I converted them to audio tracks where I added some effects. I added a real quick guitar track, very scale intensive. and output to my final mix.
I only put a few patterns together so its just a quick smooth jam. Not really a song. I'd like some critical feedback on the sound quality. I know that I overdrove the final mix just a bit, but I can correct that in console view in sonar pretty easily.

I named it the weather channel local forecast
because thats what it reminds me of.

weather channel local forecast--Heh funny name-you should call them up, this would do nicely. Sounds really good man-I like the bass groove-and the drum/percussion stuff sounds good too. Guitar tone is pretty nice-sounds like your just kind of doodling around-maybe if you had a theme or melody you could return to once or twice-it might spice it up a bit. It also ends kind of abruptly-why not just fade it out? Those are the only criticisms I can think of-it sounded fine-sounds like your doing well with sonar, good job!

Stratomaster; Thanks for the review. I was impressed with the drum, piano and bass quality which I was able to achieve through a midi input, once modified. But I dont trust my own 50 year old hearing anymore as I cant even hear over 8k at all !! :(

I was really just trying to learn the interface with the dr5 and sonar so It isn't really a song just a practice jam to see what I could do and to see if the time spent is worth it. My first little venture with the dr5. I got the unit about a week ago but I just got the instruction manual the day before I put this together. The unit is not very intuitive. I had a few problems getting the midi into sonar as well. I first used the audio out of the dr5 but that was real weak.

The guitar track still sounds kind of thin to me, but Im hoping that the new sound card, an audiophile 2496, may help that to some degree , as I am using an Audigy platinum at this time. The new card should be here in a week or so. The guitar track was literally 1 quick take the length of the song with no plan in mind and no warm up plugged in direct through the headphone jack of the line 6 ax2 to pa to audio in. I am dissapointed in the guitar sound I am getting and from what I read an amp mic is supposed to be better. I think that working on the guitar tone is the next hurdle for me.
I consider a, good job, from you to be a real compliment, by the way. Thanks
