I'm looking to buy the akai DPS16...but i have heard that it doesn't have as many features (like less effects) as some of the other models in the market. Is this true? (and doesn't it have a buildt in drum machine?..) I'm lookin for a model that has everything I need to make a good song...without too many extras. Is this the model for me? If not, what model is?.. I am quite new to this.(I have been recording on my crap computer for a while now) I would be grateful if someone would help me....

your right in that in does not have a drum machine and a sampler but neither does the roland.. I use it strictly for recording and have a separate sampler. If you want a all-in-one box, then take a look at the yamaha aw4416. It is a 16 track , 24 bit digital recorder with a built in sampler, cdr, effects, etc.. but be aware, it is usually better to by each piece of equipment separately. For example, the sampler on the yamaha is real limited compared to a stand alone sampler. Plusw look at the costs. it is not cheap.

Ok.....the dps 16 is a standalone harddisk recorder/signal processor/editor ,not a drum machine and if you want a good drum machine ,your on the right brand name but the wrong product. check out the akai mpc series of drum machines/sequencer. And the good thing about these two products is they can be sync together. And if you want to keep it in the family. If you get an akai 3000cd sampler. ITS ON......

Thanks a lot for helping me out. I think i'm going to go with the DSP 16 and just buy some ekstra external drum machine later, when I save up enough money..(I want to blow all my money now on a solid digital recorder that I will be happy with for a long time and not worry about buying a new better one. But i live in Norway and it is too expensive and limited here so i'm going to wait til the summer when I'm going to the states..I think it's cheaper there.

Before you buy the dps16, I ll let you know one complaint I have about the machine. The machine is great except if you are a dj and want to burn your mixes onto cd. The machine has a fixed 2- second gap that you cannot change when finishing tracks onto the CD. This can suck because if you have a let's say a 1 hour mix, it can only show up on the cd as 1 track that is 1 hour long. This means you cant forward to certain parts of the mix if you want unlike proffesional mix cd's that you can buy.Maybe they will come up with a new Operating system in the future which will enable you to adjust this nuisance. Other than that I have no problem with the machine. It is a great digital multitrack machine that can do everything. Make sure you get the effects with it if you decide to buy it. About the sampler, I use an MPC2000 and serves as both a sampler and an even better drum machine.
