Well you planted the seed ..lol.. so I did it ... I recorded one of Randals folk tunes last night ... and wanted to pop over here and share it with you .... :)

...and for some reason MP3.com is OK cuz "well like everyone's signed up for that anyway"

I just listened to it on there and it has a really loud hisss in it .. ughhzz .. I hadnt noticed it before ... so I am working on resolving that right now ...

Very nice. Overall level is quite low, though, barely made a blip on my Winamp meters... If you got all the sounds up higher, you might not hear that hiss so much.... Were they recorded that low? (or is it just the overall mix that is low...)

What I'm getting at (and others may be able to explain better than I) is the whole concept of recording "hot" so you have less noise. If you haven't read Ed's Mixing Rant, you should. There's a wealth of info in there for junior engineers (you can throw me into that category). I'm much more adept at solving the computer and hardware related issues than I am at recording/mixing...

I know exactly what you are Saying .... and that is my biggest obstacle now ... I am constantly worrying that it is tooooo loud, yanno ...lol

I am going to read this right now .. !!!! Thanks I appreciate it very much .. any help I can get ! heh

I can actually go into Cool Edit and bring the levels up on it more .. I have been using my speakers ( surround sound) to meter the loudness by .. well and the headphones too ... but mostly using the speakers ...

Just keep recording and mixing...
After looking at the waveforms in Cool Edit for a while, you'll start to be able to see a good track as much as you can hear it.

Thanks for the offer on researching, but that's half the fun of learning. But if you find something good in your own research (like Ed's rant) please do share...

I printed out Ed's rant and I am going to use it as a map so to speak .. although I dont understand some of it ... at least it gives me a starting point to play with .. we are fixing to do another recording tonight .. so Hopefully I can get it right this time !! lol
