Hey guys,
I was hoping you all could help me find a place to get a double bass drum kit. I want something that will sound good but be under 1k. (not mahogony or basswood)

I was looking at the Yamaha stage customs, but it's hard to find it with the standard sized toms and to get a second kick drum.

Any help would be much appreciated

Thanks

What?
Am I missing something?
There are more music stores in the state of CA. than any other state in the USA.
Call a few dealers in LA and take a trip.

The Yamaha Stage Customs are a very good low end kit. To my knowledge you can get them in either standard sizes or fusion sizes.

Almost any store can order an extra bass drum. I haven't priced drums in a couple of years, but you should be able to buy a 5 piece kit for about $700-$750 (maybe a little less) and order the extra kick for about $300-$400.

Have you considered a single kick with double pedal. hauling around an extra kick drum gets old very fast!

Thanks for the input,
Yeah there are a lot of music shops in CA but they all seem to say the same thing that it would take "3-6 months" to special order the extra kick drum. All shops I've called also seem to only have a couple stage customs which are also in crappy colors and fusion tom sizes.

Maybe I'm alone here, but I genuinely think that two kick drums sounds WAY better than a double pedal. The double pedal sounds weak and the two beaters cancel each other out on the same drum. The two separate tones is just way fatter.

Thanks again

I have a kit I had him make for me. They're all maple keller shells, and they do sound nice. Also for the price they can't be beat. I'll see if I've got anything that I recorded with them to upload so you can hear them.

Thanks if you could that would be awesome.

I'd be looking for a birch kit and it's a little out of my price range, but if it's worth it i'll go for it.

Thanks,
T

Here's a quick sample
I just recorded, it's not the best recording, but it should give you an idea of what I've got. My tom sizes are: 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18. All the depths are 2 inches shorter than their width. I also have a 22x 16 kick. Here's the pic of my kit on his website http://www.conawaydrums.com/newveneers/qmaplekit.jpg I have the quilted maple veneer, with the cobalt blue finish. In all I think it ran only $2,100.

aww, but it looks so much cooler!! It's not that big of a deal anyway. It's just one more drum.

You're not alone! 2 kicks are better IMO. I agree with you 100%. You should get two 24 inch kicks like Alex Van Halen! Bigger is better in kick drums IMO Unless you're playing jazz or fusion.

I read a lot of reviews and decided to just do it and I ordered a Conaway kit.

I like the 24 inch kicks but then it makes your toms even further away. I got 2 22x18's. It's gonna be awesome.

I'll post a review when i get it.
