Do you not see the contradiction?

Fortunately I was a musician, THEN I learned how to play drums. I enjoy playing the drums more than any other instrument right now, but if I want to make music I can still pick up a guitar, bass, keyboard, etc...

haha i know exactly what you mean EZ-Willis. i started on the bass, then moved to guitar, and now that i have my drum set, that's all i ever do for fun anymore. it's great for taking out frustration at the end of the work day, and practicing double kicks is almost like going for a jog, so i'm getting a bit of exercise out of it too. :D

i always tease my cousin though, "most of our family members are musicians, well except one, he's a drummer"

So I'm a senior in HS and
I had an interview already planned out with a friend of mine, but at the last second things didn't work out......So could someone here please answer these questions for me? Between 1-3 sentances each Q is good. I really appreciate it, this is due tommorow.....so if the first person that reads this could give me their name and where they are from, then post the answers that would be great!! :)

1. What was the first instrument you played, and when?

It was the Tuba in Junior High Band, I enjoyed it a lot, it was different from all other things and I actually played it fairly well.

2. How many instruments do you play?

Well, I can actually _play_ the tuba, with reading music. I can jam on the guitar (nothing you'd ever want to hear) and I can play the drums good as well.

3. When did you start writing music?

Well, I actually started writing about 5 years ago, but I really got into it the past couple of years.

4. Why did you start writing music?

I wanted to put out the world my view of music, I wanted to be a part of something that I loved so much. Something that helped me get through the day, I wanted to make some of my own.

5. Briefly describe how the writing process goes.

It depends on the song that I am choosing to write, I have written songs for rock groups, and I've written rap songs. To me, it all depends on the mood that I'm in. Usually it starts out with an inspired hint of something, and I work off of it. If I get a hint of inspiration to write a rap song about guns and stuff, then I do it. If I get inspired to write a rock song about never giving up, then I do it. It all starts out with the verses, I write them one after another like I'm telling a story. Then, I work in the chorus, and the hook. Sometimes it doesn't come out the way I want it to right away, so I go back over it and re-do it to make it perfect.

6. What's the hardest thing about songwriting?

I would have to say coming up with something unique that nobody has done before, or nobody has said before. It's not easy to get your own style that nobody can match.

7. Where do you write songs usually?

Well, most of the time in the solitude of my bedroom, or anywhere quiet where I can get inspired by listening to music fairly loud. :)

8. What inspires you to write?

Usually other peoples music, or just every day ordinary things. My dog can do something stupid, and I'll think of a way to work that into every day life and write a song about it..I know, weird, but sometimes it works out.

9. How long does it generally take to write a song?

It can take a week or so, to perfect it. But, usually for me it's about an hour to finish it, and about 3 days to finalize it.

10. Do you finish every song you start?

I do, most of the time. Although, I have a few where I got a lot of inspiration, and then half way through I just _lost_ it, so it sits in a text document or in a notebook to be finished at a later time.

11. Does pop culture influence your songwriting?

Not necessarily, usually things that influence my writing are every day things

12. Who do you write songs for. Yourself? Others?

I write them for myself almost always, but I have written one or two for a local rock group here.

13. Do you believe music is an important part of the world?

Yes, it is part of my every day life, and I couldn't live without it. So, I know that it's an important part of the world. If we didn't have it, what would we do? There would be so many things drawn back, so many people not known. So much talent, not shown. Of course it's an important part of the world.

14.What can be the most unenjoyable thing about writing?

There isn't anything, I love writing in every aspect, I write every day. Whether it's music, to poetry, to some school project. I love writing. But, if I had to choose the most 'un-enjoyable' thing about writing, would have to be writing a chorus for a song, it seems to be my pet peeve and hardest thing to successfully accomplish. For me, at least.

15. What is the most rewarding part of songwriting?

When you think of a unique idea in a song and it works out. Or when you finally finish a song, that's been eating at the back of your mind forever. or there's a line that you can't think of a rhyme for, or a 2nd hook, and you just come up with it randomly not even trying to. It's so rewarding, But the most rewarding of all, is to hear the final product. Knowing, that you did it all.

Hopefully this helps you out a bit, I enjoyed answering the questions whether or not you choose to take my answers vs someone else's. :)

Be cool, keep it real.
