What is the intended purpose of these recordings?

To make them better...that is, more attractive to people who would buy recordings...

1-don't sing
2-don't put wierd drums over what are pretty nice acoustic [piezo-ish, like Adrian Legg] recordings.

Simple stuff like 01 is really nice to listen to. It's hard to make it sound good, and you did [careful execution]. It reminded me a lot of Lindsey Buckingham..and some of the intros he did on F. MAc's tunes.

I'd try mixing your PU signal with a mic, or two, or three, on the acoustic; and try experimenting with filling the field L to R with major acoustic beauty.

I didn't enjoy the vocal stuff or drums. Your strong point is careful, simple tone-poems with acoustic. Nice!

Hi there...

Track 01: for me, sounded very nice, simple but good. Not to much to comment. But you could improve the guitar sound with other mics.

Track 02: You need Autotune, don't be ashamed of using it, everybody does, so go for it. To me, the delay on the first part of the voice was too much.

Track 03: Try to double the guitars panning them, they sound nice, but they should sound better that way. At the end there's a synth with a "mmmmmmmmm" very loud, try reducing the volume of that.

Enough Time: The vocals are too quiet. I can't understand them. Autotune again. The drums are not very good mixed... they seem to be recorded in one track only. The overheads are too loud. The guitar player should take notice that his bendings are very out of tune. Example: If you make a bend in A, it should go to the next tone of the scale, like a B... not A# and a half.

Good stuff by the way... they need some work... like everything in life.

I liked all four tracks.

I thought the vocals were good

much potential

I'm trying to use melodynes demo that comes with protools to fix some sharps and flats but no luck so far.

Hey thanks for the responses. I appreciate the time you took to listen.

jeffmaher- Thanks for being so detailed. I'm not going to throw singing out of the songs, but I take your point about the drums being weird.

zero00- Thanks for the comments, but I don't know the first thing about Autotune. I will look into it, because I agree that the vocals have rough patches.

stupidfatnugly-thanks for the listening dude.

OK. But that's what I asked was the intended purpose. With the nice, simple, well recorded tone-poems', you actually have, IMO, a product that producers of radio, TV and film, will license for broadcast support. It's good. And , apparently, there ain't enough to satisfy current demand
OTOH, the singing is not of the same desirability as the guit tracks alone. They kill the potential and esthetics of the guitar comps.
If you're in it for fun and development, kewel. Keep singing. But you can also make some money for you next mic or set of monitors by compiling a collection ...vox-less...and farming it out to any publisher who'll handle it.

Cut 01 has things about right: an example of your strengths as a careful, attentive performer, and a pretty good recordist. Uncluttered, interesting, and applicable to where there is some actual return for your efforts and gifts. It ain't a hit record....

Add drums, vocal.....not 'there' yet.

Tangentally related, and mebbe not applicable to you:

Sometimes I get the notion that some hobby recordists think they're 'selling out' by making money with their 'art'. [fear of rejection?]

Norman Rockwell did magazine covers. Where they were used was no indictment of the supreme quality of his works....which hang in museums, now.

Have some fun! I mean, y'all 'invest' in recording equipment 'tools', right? Put your manufactured product to work!

And if your getting work signed.....you don't need us guys to tell you that what you do is good...or bad!

There are some guys here who can produce potential hit records. A lot who can't..but who CAN make attractive tracks for other venues.

Not every architect has the skills and vision to build bridges, dams, skyscrapers; but a lot of them make a nice living doing little pink houses.

And the drive that inspires us to undertake the making of music is that someone will listen to it..and enjoy it, right? If you tell me you don't want to make a buck or two in the process...I call you a liar. :^)

So, if you want to make a buck or two....cut 01 is the trail, for now.

I'm giving you two thumbs-up on 01. You asked: "....any criticism or critique that I might use to improve. " Don't sing on your records. Use flutes or harmonicas. Or tin whistles. Use simple hand-drums and percussion..the real thing. Ever hear of Ralph Towner and 'Oregon'?.

Cuz I love you, man!
