Another random thing... Just a remake by 3 friends, 2 of twice who are not really musicians; not even a natural musical ounce. They were taught and learned the song and this was their first studio experience what so ever. This was sung by a guy who is not a singer. It was strictly for the fun of it. We had a great time. Probably should keep it to myself, but I can't help but share. Any questions, just ask.

I totally expected this to suck...

I was disappointed... Hehehee...What I mean is, this sounds a lot better than you led me to believe. I mean, if it had more bass, you could almost pass this off as the original.

Those crashes totally suck..heheheh... How fun were THOSE to hit???

I think I actually hate you for screwing around and coming up with something this good.

Man, that has got to be the longest tom build in the history of recording.

Fuck you, Rob.
:D

Very impressed by the sound of those cymbals... there's plenty of commercial stuff out there with cymbals that don't even touch those for quality... recorded how? :)

Everything sparkles... well... it should... you're Recording Engineer, eh? ;)

Sorry for the disappointment there Chris... :D Seriously, I appreciate you guys taking the time to load this one. Glad it was worth it and you guys liked it. Yeah, all for fun, and it certainly was!

On the cymbals? A matched-pair of Neumann 103s in an A-B stereo miking setup. They were positioned about 1.5 ft. above the edge of the cymbals (the drummer-side edge) with their capsules pointed straight down, horizontal with the floor. They went into a DaviSound TB-3 preamp/compressor with a very tiny bit of compression and the tube "OUT". Then just to the HD24 recorder.

The only other mics on drums were a Beyerdynamic M201N(C) on snare and a Beyerdynamic M88N(C) inside the kick.

Any other questions, just ask.

What did you do to the vocals...lead and background...I'm not hearing doubling...did you compress the crap out of them, what reverbs, FX...basically, the vocal chain please.

thank you,

Mr. "You seem To Know What You're Doing So I'll Ask You B/C I'm Too Lazy To Spend Years Learning How To Record Well" Harris.

get out of here with this pro pretending he's goofing off shit.
nice job. excellent quality. goofing off just made the tune more believable and fun.

this song has always reminded me of an old cat I used to have. He liked to hump sweaters. they were usually pretty trashed by the time he was done.

Vocals

All the vocals were cut (tracked) in my studio (VERY dead, even though it has a solid oak parquet floor, a 8'X8', very reflective wall, and solid pine doors) on a single 103 into my DaviSound TB-3 preamp/compressor with various amounts of compression and Tube "OUT". As you can tell, I find that combo VERY versatile!

No doubling of the verse vocals. At mixdown, the verse vocals were slapped with a dbx 160X with a 10:1 Ratio in hard-knee mode with the Threshold set for a gain reduction of 10-15dB, possibly 20dB at times. Then board EQ and sent to a Yamaha REV 7 with a VERY small, but VERY open/airy and bright room effect.

The chorus vocals were doubled, but after the first chorus, the "Whao, Whao, Whao" lines were added on the doubling track. At mixdown, I used 2 channels of a Presonus ACP-8, both with about a 5:1 Ratio, medium-fast Attack, medium Release, and set the Threshold so I got about 5-7dB of gain reduction. I also used the gates on the ACP-8 for these tracks. Board EQed and then sent to the same REV 7.

The 3rd vocal in the choruses after the first was a simple high-end cut with the board EQ and left dry.

The "Do Do Do" vocals were the 3 guys and were doubled. No EQ. They were sent to a Lexicon LXP-5 with some-sort of preset Delay setting.

All vocal tracks were then stereo subgrouped and I strapped an FMR RNC across them in Super Nice Mode with roughly a 3:1 Ratio, medium Attack and Release, and set Threshold so I got a gain reduction of 4-6dB.

Very Cool Of You

Thank you for taking the time to post that. I'm printing it.
