Long time reader of these forums, first time poster. Such a great resource ^^ THX!!!

My question today has to do with recording guitar. I just built a MONSTER of a PC but internal soundcard is a bit noisy so I want to go for an external device.

I have an HD 100 Tube amp by line6 with tone and effects that I like. My thought was to run its XLR 'direct out' cable into the mic preamp input of a Focusrite Saffire Pro 24 DSP (Which I have yet to purchase).

Does this make sense, and is it ok to run an amp directly into a mic preamp that way?
Is there any reason that would sound like crap, or any solution that makes way more sense for running my amp into my PC and still bypassing my PC soundcard inputs?

Thanks a ton for reading, ya'll seriously rule.

Is it a Line level out or Mic level out of the amp? It sounds like it may be a Mic level output.

I'm sure the Focusrite can take either...just match them up correctly.

Thanks Miroslav. I'm almost positive its Mic level. Same tech as their POD series stuff. What exactly do you mean by match them up correctly?

Connect Mic level outputs to Mic preamp intpus...or...Line level outputs to Line level inputs.

You don't want a Line out going to a Mic pre input....it's too hot.
