I currently use Pro Audio 9 w/AudioFX 1.

Using the SAME equipment, would the sound quality be any better with an upgrade to Sonar?

Does using an older sound card lessen the benefits?

I have a Gina20 and a Soundblaster w/livedrive that I have been plugging into direct. But the sound is kinda flat without effects. I'm thinking about upgrading those too if I can find something for $200-$300 that will make a real difference.

Thanks for the info!

Please tell me that you're only using the Gina for recording! ;)

What is wrong with SB Live?

I haven't noticed any difference, but I use the Gina20 for Instrument/Voc input and the SB for Midi inputs.

Give me the good news first, if there is any. hehe

There was a noticeable sound difference between Sonar v2 and v3, so you will get a massive difference in audio engine quality. Whether or not you can hear or appreciate that difference in audio engine quality will depend on the quality of your monitoring chain.

....and the quality of your recording/monitoring chain would be extremely enhanced by taking the SB card out of the equation.

....and if you are using the Gina for your audio stuff, (and therefore I am presuming your timing master), how are you NOT running into time shifts when you add the SB as your MIDI input controller?

:) Q.

The sad but true story...

I don't "program" my midi files. I don't know what a timing master is. I don't have the patience for that stuff. All I want to do is just plug it in and let it rip.

I use the midi keyboard as a trigger and play the part I want (i.e. congas, horns, strings, etc.) to the existing guitar, bass, or drum tracks.

When I get a reasonable take, I'll bounce the midi track to an audio track (because midi makes my head hurt), then I'll mix the whole thing down to an MP3 so I can listen to it on my stereo or in my car.

So far it's been good for getting ideas down, but too cheesy to give out to friends. I NEED PROFESSIONAL HELP!!
