does anyone use Joemeek Microphones?

Well, I don't have much experience with them but that JM47 seems promising as a pretty damn smooth vocal mic or good all purpose condensor. I've played with it a bit and that's my feeling on it so far.

But I've never really played with those yet.

I was wondering the same thing too bro! I saw the Joe Meek JM47 Large Diaphragm Studio Condenser Microphone and I fell in love with it on looks alone. I never got to audition it though. Maybe I might take the chance and buy it on impulse.

Punched up V67

..I have the JM47 and from what I read on some other postings on this site, the mic is a MXL V67 clone with added switching...and that's a good thing...sounds sweet on vocal tracks (male baritone)...for $149 with spider mount (much nicer than the "clamp-style" mounts used by MXL) it's a keeper!...but if you can find an SE-2200a for the same price (with an even better mount/Neumann-style!) that would be my recommendation...beautiful mic with Panasonic components, hand selected capsules, and clean craftsmanship...or go another $50. and get a tube mic from MXL (the new 960 Mogami edition)...for $199. from MF shipped!...too many choices!

There is a Neumann Style mount available for the JM47, but it is sold as an option. To keep the package costs down, we do not offer the JM47 with the road case, and made the Shock mount optional.

So The JM47 with the extra mount is about $150.00 less than the SE2200A for basically the same mic. Both are Class A discrete with balanced transformer output. Capsule quality is equal...being both are Chinese and have pretty good QC.

You can see the mount here: JM47 Mount

all due respect...

With all due respect to Mr. Hyatt (I am the proud owner of many Joe Meek and Sound Projects products), I paid about the same price ($150.) for both the JM47 and the SE 2200A, both including their Neumann-style mounts (the SE mount is oversized and has a felt bushing where the mic meets the mount)...as far as build quality, one look under the hood reveals superior circuitry on the SE (Japanese Panasonic components as per reviews of the mic), as well as a heftier casing and grill...nonetheless, the JM47 seems to be, in my limited experience with the 2 mics, comparable in sonic qualities (and that, afterall, is why you purchase the thing in the first place)...quality control though, looks to be a bit higher on the SE product...both are excellent choices in the $150-200. range...I would bet that Mr. Hyatt's Studio Projects mics are more likely to cause the SE staff some sleepless nights (B1, C1 & T3 to be precise)...

That price is interesting...I have found the price for the SE2200A is about $350.00 on all the online dealers, and have been unable to find it for less.

As for Panasonic components, they are no better than any other brands 1% tolerance metal film resistor. We can buy Panasonic resistors as well, but in tests we have done, they do not perform any better.

In fact, both the SE 2200A and JM47 tested out almost identical. We could beef up the case and grille, but it is very stout and we did not want to spend more money on it since we accomplished acheiving the same sonic quality as the SE for much less money, but I am curious where you can buy the SE2200A for $150.00 with case and mount. All the on-line guys, even Full Compass are $350.00... :)

I'd be pretty pissed if you could get the SE2200A for $150 because SE's pricing (like PMI's) is pretty fair on us Brits and you can't get it cheaper than £140 = $280.

Since you're here, I reckon I need to buy one LDC pretty soon to quench my GAS problem for the next few months. The only LDC I have is the SE2200 (first edition). Just say for a minute I'm choosing between the PMI ones ... cos then I can expect a fair comparison ... shall I get a B1 (or two), a C1 or a JM47? Is the JM47 too close to what I already have? I'm willing to pay if you're willing to play ;)

There just more cheap budget mics.

While keeping your other post in mind.

Where should I be heading next ... not the highest of high end gear, but I'm not buying any more cheap crap.

Well, if you have the SE2200 first edition, then no need to get a JM47, as they are a very similar sound.

As for what you need, well that depends on your use. The B1 is more forgiving in placement and more of a utility mic(good on many things). The C1 is more of a vocal mic, but good for acoustic, piano, sax and other instruments, but positioning is more critical....

I guess we will have to talk at Sounds Expo! I am sure I can come up with a special deal for you..... ;)

SE 2200A for $149...

Here's one of the Ebay suppliers at that price...

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=41466&item=3776231423&rd=1

I bought mine for $139. from Stone Recording on Ebay about a month ago(with hardshell case & oversized Neumann-style mount)...seems few people know about these mics and there's almost no bid action on them (hit completed auctions on the left tab on the Ebay page to see the going rate on these mics)...

As far as the component quality, you don't have to be electrical engineer to see the difference in the build quality (especially circuit construction) when removing the casings on both mics...this is not an assault on the JM47...it's simply a opportunity to purchase a higher price (be it similar) mic at the same price point....I am very pleased with my JM47...I recommend the mic to my associates shopping in that price range...but I can't pass up the opportunity to purchase a slightly higher quality product (with a much higher suggested retail price) for the same or LESS dollars...

Hey Alan, I'm on your side...I bought my JM47 on Ebay for $99. about 3 months ago (sans the mount which I just bought last week from Same Day Music for $30.)...Now that's a great mic for a GREAT price...I'm a fan of your products and your focus on high quality products at reasonable price points...I have 2 of your new JM 3Qs...love 'em!...and my SP C1 is my favorite non-tube mic in my arsenal...truce brother...

That's what I suspected. I thought I got a duff buy when I bought that SE, but over the last 12 months I've grown to like it as I've understood mics a little more (and used some more expensive ones!).

For what it's worth - I think that in a thread about JoeMeek mics it is very honest to tell me I don't need one. Lots of trash gets talked on here but that is surely anti-spam!! :)

Sent you an email ...

Kidvybes - those are some awesome prices you're getting on SE over there. They must've dropped fast because last time I checked they were comparable to our UK prices. No need to get defensive - it's all part of the fun and games on here. I know I've said enough dumb stuff to people in my time, so don't worry about the odd mis-wording.

no offense taken...

Noisedude...no problem man...I was just kidding 'cause I chose a font too large on that one posting...
I appreciate the honesty, and I enjoy hooking up a good deal for the next guy..."what goes around, comes around"...
I hope I haven't ruffled Alan's feather's too much...I really do have a great respect for his products as well as his knowledge of the industry...I guess I spend too much time looking for Ebay bargains...

Alan could you tell me what the differance is in the new jm47 and the old one that came out a few years ago?
Thanks

He gets worse than that on here!! I think it's fair to see he does things slightly different around here to how he used to because of that.
