Hi:
I saw Bob Dylan playing this chord on tv once and thought it looked cool so I learned it, but I have no idea what the chord is. The chord is played by putting your index finger on the A string on the second fret. Putting you middle finger on the low E string on the third fret. Putting your third finger on the b string on the third fret and putting your fouth finger on the high E string of the third fret.
And that's the chord. It's a great one. Does anybody exactly what it is? Do you know what it's called?
I hope you can answer my question.
Thanks.

Hmm...I'm a little confused--but I'm sure it's my fault. So help me figure this out: you've been playing and writing for 14 years, and in all that time your only exposure to a G Major chord is having seen Bob Dylan play it once on TV?

In 14 years there've been no lead sheets, no tabs, no chord finders--no songs of your own for that matter--that had a G chord?

Oh yeah...forgot to mention--the fourteen year stat was from another thread. His words, not mine. :D

2 more chords in 28 years and you'll be able to play a song.

I think you need to learn a little music theory.

A chord can be voiced a multitude of ways as long as it contains the proper ingredients. It's not magic,it's more like math.

This cat has been in search of the lost chord.....

So it was coz it looked cool rather than sounded good ?
Methinks someone is trying to rizzle our razzle. ;)

Depends if Bob had it capo'd. It may of been a Bb if capo'd 3rd!

Thanks to those who helped me.

Hello:
Thanks to those of you who supplied relevant information regarding the question I had about that particular chord. If it is different variation on a G then thanks to those of you for informing me of that in a courteous manner. For your information, I have studied some music theory, but had never run across that particular chord before and thought that I would receive some help in a pleasant way. As for the rest of you who felt that they needed to respond to my post by making stupid, insensitive, snide comments, you're all jerks! I could use some stronger words, but I have too much respect for this site to do that. I think it degrades, demeans, and is counter productive to the purpose of this site to post comments like that.
I didn't join this site to be insulted and I wouldn't have insulted any of you with such a post.
I think that if any of you who made such comments have any kind of a conscience you should apologize.

Ok, if you were truly serious about your question(s), including the one about which key you'd be in, then I am sorry for making fun of them. They did not appear to be realistic questions, particularly given the years of experience you have. But if they're true, then I apologize.

But if you're yanking my chain, no moderator on the planet will be able to lessen the wrath that will reign down upon you. :laughings:
