just wondering if any of you guys out there us the recorderman or Glyn Johns techniques, but still add close mics on the snare and toms?

If any of you guys do this, do you have any samples?

I use the Recorderman method, and close mic the snare, kick and toms.

I'm not much of a drummer, but did drums on this recently...

I was using Recordman until I switched to Glyn Johns. I use 4 mics: The 2 overheads, kik and snare.

You can hear any of my tunes at www.ramirami.com There's a random player, so I hope it doesn't happen to play one of my older songs first, but if you scroll through a few tunes, you'll get an idea of my drum sound.

I use the recorderman with an added snare. Depending on the tune and how dominant a role is played by the toms, I'll close mic those too.

I still get the overall of the kit thru the OH's tho and then blend the close mics to taste.

Happy Tracking mang........

recorderman + snare mic.

i'm also considering getting a few mics on the toms, but i haven't started that experiment yet.

I've gone nuts a couple times and used the Recorderman method with close mics on everything including snare bottom and a room mic in front of the kit. But that was only to see how it sounded... which was good btw :)
