I bought a "new" pinch roller for my MS16 on a "well known online audio shop" (not ebay), although i have one that is fully rerubbered by terry and completely flat, when i received the "new" one i noticed that it is convex or barrel shaped a little when put on a flat surface. When i called the seller he says that it is how it came from Tascam and that 1" pinch rollers are supposed to be like this, fatter in the middle so it will wear and break in.
Having sent other pinch rollers to terry from my other machines, and getting all of them flat. I am wondering if what this seller is telling me is true or not. He says i can return it if i dont like it and that this is only because is wide format.
Based on your experience, do pinch rollers at this tape width should be totally flat or fatter in the middle ? i thought that the contact between pinch roller and capstan was supposed to be uniform across the tape width, not only in the center.
thoughts ?
