Here's a remake I did of the Beatles tune Do You Want to Know a Secret.

Kind of a modern rock style I think, I really would like some opinions on the mix please! Check it out;

Thanks!

Good tones overall, nice mix. Seems a little bright overall.

Almost sounds like Beatallica.

I like it, but it's a bit bright, as stated. That seems to convolute the mix a bit. Maybe compressed a bit too much. Back off a little, and see if the dynamics come back. Everything seems to run together a bit when it's louder. That's my only real suggestion. Cool tune, and I like what you've done with it. Just see if you can give it more depth.

Great, thanks! That's just what I need...

I was trying to get that that wall of many guitars sound that all songs have now, but I'm a more retro guy so I've never mixed something like that. Will probably take some tweaking to get this better...

Man that does kind of sound modern Hetfieldish. Crazy man. :eek:

Nice arrangement well performed. Agree that it's a little bright, but it's not a harsh kind of bright. Personally, I'd tweak the delay on the vocal during the first verse before :40, automating it out when the vocal stops each time... after "listen", "secret", "tell", "closer".

fhkng great groove on an oldie..... excellent recording eng. chops too wow!

Very cool and and up-to-date sounds/effects on this version - shows how far we've come in the last 50? years (has it been that long?). Great verbs on the voice and guitars.

I prefer the original tempo on this tune myself, but I think you've done a great job with this. It bigger and has a lot more going on......good one :D

just listened a couple more times with the headset, a lot going on..a lot.
damn good job. geez.

Curious what equipment you had, really well done performance and engineering.......the headphones always sound so good. thats just alot of fhkng talent, on both sides of the glass.

Thanks for all the comments!

I actually just did a new mix about 2 hours ago, I'll post it when I get it fixed up and mastered a bit...

There is a lot going on in this, kind of went overboard! Just for guitars;
- an Ibanez AF85 with TV Jones pups, recorded from the pickups in the right and acoustically in the left, that's the first guitar you hear.
- an old 60's Yamaki acoustic sometimes in the left.
- a Telecaster through a line 6 Modulation modeller in stereo doing some weird effects.
- the tele on another stereo track through the line 6 doing the Leslie effect
- the Tele doing the lead solo
- 3 tracks of an early 80s RR Jackson doing the "grunge" rhythm guitar track.
Most of the guitar tracks are processed through Guitar Rig.

Then there's a big stereo pad, a little organ, an electric piano, about 8 tracks of back vocals, lots of drums... I did all the music and back vocals myself, but the lead vocal was done by someone on the Artist Collaboration website.

Standby for the next mix, should sound better!

no man, there's absolutely so much crap out there these days....
its us thanking you....
great to hear something this good.

What kind of recording unit and mics?

I record with Cubase SX 2, and an Echo Mia soundcard. The only thing miked are the vocals, recorded with a Rode NT-1.

damn thats frkn a Big Score for the HR crowd.

very encouraging.
