Do You Really Need A Mpc2000 ?

WHAT'S UP FELLOW MUSICIANS I'M CATMAN NEW TO THIS FORUM AND DIDITAL RECORDING, I GOTTA QUESTION FOR YOU.
MY INSTRUMENTS OF CHOICE ARE KEYBOARDS AND GUITAR AND I ASK YOU THIS.................

DO YOU REALLY NEED AN MPC2000 TO MAKE GREAT BEATS?
I MEAN CAN'T YOU JUST USE YOUR CURRENT SOUND MODULE DRUMSOUNDS AND "QUANTIZE" THE NOTES IN A COMPUTER AUDIO PROGRAM ?

IS THERE I DIFFRENCE IN THE " QUANTIZATION" ON THE MPC2000 OR 3000 , THAN THE COMPUTER SOFTWARE??

I KNOW IT DEPENDS ON WHICH SOFTWARE YOU USE BUT DOESN'T THAT DO THE SAME FUCNTION?

BESIDES FROM ALSO BEING A SAMPLER, WHATS THE BENEFIT ?

IT SEEMS THAT THIS MPC2000 ID FOR DJ'S ( NO OFFENSE) OR PEOPLE WHO DON'T ACTUALLY PLAY A MUSICAL INSTRUMENT.

I'M ASKING BECAUSE I HAVE OTHER MODULES AND SOUNDS SOURCES. I'M TESTING AN MPC2000 NOW IN MY RIG , I CAN WORK WITH IT BUT I DON'T WANT TO HAVE TO SEQEUNCE TRACKS ON THE MPC2000 AND THEN RE-RECORD THEM TO THE COMPUTER ALSO.

OHH I FORGOT TO MENTION THAT I HAVE A DAW, NOTHING FANCY I JUST WANT TO WRITE GOOD MUSIC A QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE.

No you dont --NECESSARILY-- have to use a MPC2000

It's just a staple of what the mainstream knows to be the best at structuring a beat. Most people use it cause of it's timing, it's undoubtedly the BEST time frame, believe me if you screw up a pattern -- that would sound good, cause it catches the next note, making it a proper hit/sequence

so basically that's why most -NON MUSICIANS-- use it, I have one myself, but I mostly sequence in Cubase and can do just as great as anyone ---- learn your gear, it's more important

I just found out the producer for DMX's song "SLIPPIN" was done on a Roland 950 or some other, this kid doesnt even know how to operate an MPC 2K, 60 and got a hit that every HIP HOP HEAD knods too, they cant tell the difference.

Thanks alot man, I'll just concentrate on what I do best and learn the rest of my rig when i get something together imma holla at-cha.
I think I'll just use the software on my computer, i have a copy of n-tracks are you familiar with that ? Any suggestions on a simple-to-use audio program ?

Don't wanna be a techhead just be a musician4-life ;-)
 
For making beats, I would recommend giving Fruity Loops a try.

what is the roland 950? Did you mean the Akai S950?

Also for the comments about the "NON-Musicians".
I just wanted it to be known that I am a Hip-Hop and R&B Producer that uses the Akai MPC2000 but I Also play the Guitar, Bass, Keys, Percussion, and some drums (when I was younger). I just dont want people to think that Artist that use the MPC are not musicians. Becuase there is a large amount of artists that were actual musicians before they starting using an MPC. Sorry I just had to get that off my chest. I mean no disrespect to anyone. I just had to say what I had to say. Thank You. :)
 
well it don't matter what you use as long as you get the sound you are looking for

there are lots of other samplers and sequencers liek the mpc
but it is a "standard" when it comes to hiphop production
but just because its a standard doesn't mean that any other sampler won't do
the asr10 is also a great sampler

and nowadays there are even computer programs that will do a great job in gettin you the sound you want
fruity loops is great (like mentioned above)

some people like the mpc some don't some use a triton,eps,whatever

HEY DJ !! GOOD TO KNOW THERE ARE STILL MUSICIANS OUT THERE, I MEANT NO OFFENCE EITHER. JUST GOOD TO KNOW THAT YOU'RE USING YOOR OWN EAR'S AND NOT ALBUMS TO HELP MAKE ALL YOUR MUSIC.

GOOD LOOKING OUT ON THE " FRUITY LOOPS" AND "ACID PRO" THEY BOTH LOOK LIKE DECENT PROGRAMS.

I'LL STILL USE THE MPP SINCE I HAVE IT, I JUST WANTED TO KNOW WHAT THE ALTERNATIVES WERE.

Sorry for not getting back to you ealier, but then again the FAM came through and let you know the deal. Bottom line, they hit it on the head, I'm just glad you remain a musician first and not let the machine control or dicatate your road to a song.

Like I said, I hardly use mine, but when I get some hip hop cats, that only know that piece, I use it, they are impressed, and life goes on..


D.J.TonyMOMO -- you might be right AKAI S950, I know it was an old machine, but yeah the guy used that to make his hit, D.J. Premier still uses SOMETIMES the MPC 60II, I know for fact that D.J. EVIL DEE still does, It's to each his own
