Yesterday I was listening to my re20 and it sounded overly bassy. Now today after I unboxed it and am about to sell it it seems to sound fine. Maybe it's because I compare it to other mics and I notice a difference that i don't like. Maybe I'm just mental. IDK. I just bought another nd767a for 100 bucks new but now im starting to think my re20 is fine. There goes another 100 dollars. derp de derp!

I had that issue with the Heil PR35. Bought a pair of them, was initially impressed and as time went on grew to dislike them. Other folks LOVE that mic. Makes me wonder what the problem was. I just picked up a pair of Line6 XD V55 wireless which will accept the 35 wireless capsule, might give it another try.

Different mic sounds each day

When I was recording orchestras over a week session, there were no mic or equipment changes, yet each day the sound was usually different. We all concluded it was the mood of the players, the changes in temperature and humidity, and ear fatigue, as it is when a mix sounds dull and lifeless in the end of a long day, then it sounds amazing to everyone the next morning. Also failing mic capsules can cause daily changes in sound.

Nope - my two mics are pretty much the same everytime I turn them on. NTK and Sputnik.

Never had it with microphones, but certainly performance groups and choirs sound different depending on the time of day, heat, stress, whatever.
I'd be chalking it up to that too.
