do wav files play on a CD player

Hi all
I think I might be in the wrong forum here, but anyway...
Does anyone know can you play a .WAV file burnt onto a CD in an ordinary CD player?
Or what about mp3 files?
I'm thinking no, so what's the alternative?

CD players can't play wavs (as far as I know)... but some weirdo DVD players can handle mp3s, as can a few dedicated mp3CD walkman thingys.

Just drag the wav file into a CD burning program and choose 'burn audio CD' or whatever (instead of data CD) - nearly all burning programs will do this without even thinking about it.
 
Most CD burning software programs will automatically convert files to play on a CD if you tell it to make an audio CD as opposed to a Data CD.
 
And as I found out the hard way, most DVD players won't play burnt CDs.
