The issue with MOTU pci cards was the older PCI spec, not the chipset so it can vary from MB to MB

Which mainboard were you using and which pci slot did you plug it into ?

I have tried the card in about a dozen different mbs since then, belonging to a bunch of different people. Tried all 4 slots.

The problem is NOT due to a conflict.

And I've been a computer professional for going on 15 years, I know what I'm doing.

If you tried it in that many boards and had the same problem with all of them I would suggest the MOTU card was somewhat faulty. It is highly unlikely you would have conflict with that many. The common denominator is the usually the problem with PCs (ie the MOTU card).

wasn't implying that you didnt know what you were doing, was going to try and make a few suggestions based on your computer equipment

The problem with via chipsets is well known, and documented by MOTU. It is spcific to the chipset.

And btw, the MOTU card works fine in Macs.

With the PCI 324 there are problems with more than just VIA chipsets. Motu really had a poor design on that one. There was also problems with different types of RAM as well according to MOTU tech support. It really was not a VIA problem in specific. There was a much larger problem due to MOTU. At least according to MOTU's tech support that is.
