Do I Really Need A Vocal Booth?

I had a thread I was reading that had great URLs for buying basic materials to build small booths and isolation boxes, but I can't find it anywhere. I must be flipping out and forgetting what word I used to find it. Can anyone point me to something similar or that thread?

I wonder if you would get the same fat sound by using one of those mic surrounds. Don,t know what you call them ,but they just fit on a stand and kill out the sound of any room.
 
Over 3 years since anyone posted on this thread and you ask this question?

I have one of the 'SE-Type' vocal booth things that sit on the mic stand....
It's been working well in the room I've been using but took it to a friends room and we really struggled with it, ending up in its abandonment...
I'm in the process of building a new room in the attic (insulation arrives in the morning) and I'll try it in there and see... The plus is that to a certain extent I'll be able to do more in this room in the way of treatment...
