I just got the Studio Project C1 condenser mic and have been recording some vocals and acoustic and electric guitars using my M-audio Firewire Solo interfacehere . And Im using the Kristal software.

The problem is: I got weak signal coming from the Firewire Solo's build-in phantom power. I have turned it 3/4 way but still my vocals or acoustic guitar sound weak/small.

Will a good pre amp amplify the signal to a decent level? Any suggestion on brands? Im new to this please help. Thanks in advance.

The gain on that preamp is 40 dB so a unit with higher gain would help boost levels more.

You might also try compressing/limiting the signal once it's in your DAW to see if it's workable that way. It may color the sound too much, but if not, you've saved yourself the cost of a new preamp at this point.

Most condensor mics work better when they're getting their full 48 volts. You might try a separate phantom power source - they're cheap.

Oh yeah. You needs lots of em. 4 is not enough. I have four and I still want more. It's an addictive habit. Get out now.
