Do I need an A/D converter?

I have an analog mixer(Studio Lc by Soundcraft) and just got Nuendo 1.5(I am a beginner).I have my mixer connected to my computer(Line In) so I am recording digitally, so why use a A/D converter?

Because if you weren't using an A/D converter, you wouldn't get the line signal onto your hard disc:)

There is an A/D converter on your soundcard already. The reason for using an "external A/D" converter or a better soundcard is that the quality of the A/D is better. If you use an external A/D converter, you need a soundcard with a digital input. Don't worry about external A/D converters until you are sonusman (hi Ed) because we're talking big bucks.

If you feel that you need a better recording quality or more in- and outputs, then you can look into a better soundcard. Until then, use the A/D converter you already have.
