do I have a strong accent?

I know i do have one, when I talk ;)
I assume, I don't have any when I sing :)
I was told I pronounce w instead of v. I have been working on correcting that. Please let me know, what you think about it :)

burak, you definitely have an accent, but then, I don't see anything wrong with it (?)

Accents are part of who we are... Although... I'm going to ramble...

I was just talking to someone the other day about my mom (she's Filipino) - to me, she's got this very thick accent (I was born in D.C. back in 69, so I have, um, an "American accent"(?))... anyway, when she goes to visit the Phillipines, those folks over there thinks she has an American accent even though she is speaking Togalog, which is one of the dialects over there. What does this mean? Nuttin'... Just thought it was interesting.

If I were to have a Filipino accent, my F's would be P's (typically). For example, "Everybotty was Kung Poo Pighting. Them cats were Past as Lighting." Again, this means nothing, but I never really get to type about this stuff.

I think accents add character relative to whomever is listening. That means a little something.

(sidenote: I read with an English accent, like Shakespeare)
 
You've got an accent but so what.....I downloaded "You Are The One" and "My Girl"...nice songs...your info doesn't say who played what or how the songs were recorded, I'd like to know those things...very upbeat.....nice mixes....gibs

I did sing all the songs and played all the instruments live (except the drums are programmed by me ;) ).
It has been difficult for me to form a band here in USA, many musicians here think my being foreign would mean I'm not up to the job. Very dissappointing at times, indeed. I am working on my second CD now, and I hope to bring a band together to support the album. I am Turkish and moved to the USA six years ago. Hopefully I will become American citizen in 2001 :) Maybe that may change some things ;)

Monty, I am using W30 on many of the tracks. The piano, strings and drums on "Cant get her out of my mind" are all W30 :)
I also use it to play the SBLive soundfonts via MIDI :)

Hey burak.

I listened to a few of your tunes. Nice work! I would say that yes, I can tell that you have an accent. BUT, if you hadn't mentioned it, I would've been fooled into thinking that you were doing it on purpose (at times anyway). Your voice sounds *very* much like the dude from the Talking Heads (argh what's his name?!). The only time your accent is really noticable is on the slower tunes IMHO.

Not that it really matters. There's nothing wrong with an accent!

Burak...I too listened to a few. I liked them. I probably wouldn't have noticed an accent unless you had mentioned it. Maybe you're being paranoid. You notice it more than others and think everyone else is noticing as much as you. If someone doesn't like it, they can go to hell.

Monty, you're right on :) The accent helped me through the years to start conversation with girls :) But very same thing prevents me to get good gigs :(
It is a trade-off I guess. Usually it helps me in the gigs(if i can get them first), I get the attention of the audience between songs, when I say something :)

I hear you monty. The good part of Nashville is that it is very inexpensive. I don't need to work long hours to pay my rent :) I find a lot of time to practice and to record. I think, eventually I'll move to a city on the coast. I lived in Istanbul before, I miss the smell of the sea.

I would like to visit Istanbul someday. If you want sea smells, the west coast is full of them.
 
You kinda have an accent but I think it's fine.

Have you heard of Lene Marlin from Norway? She hasn't been released in the States yet but I've heard that she's quite popular in Europe/UK and she's doing OK in Asia. Your accent is better than hers.

The only thing I noticed is that when you say "them" it kinda sounds like "dem" and some parts are kinda hard to understand but I think it's fine.

Hard to understand some parts but it's ok, it just sounds hard to understand, it doesn't sound excessively foreign.
 
I haven't heard Lene Marlin. What kind of music, they make? Thank you for your input :) I will try harder on my -th- sounds :D
 
Monty, drop me an email, if you happen to go to Istanbul. I have still some friends over there, who can show you around. I'm fixing to visit west coast this summer. After finishing the second CD, I'd love to play some gigs in the west.
 
I bet the majority of the people living in TN have an accent of one sort or another. Accent, no accent, your music sounds great. Keep up the great work.
