I mean a vst but not a vst where you create your own beats using the piano i mean a generator which scans your music patterns etc; listens to it and then defines a beat to go with the tempo of the track? ie when the track is slow in parts it generates a slow beat and then when the song kicks in a big kick is created.

Does this type of thing exisit or am i fantasing?

i know its a bit of a cheat as most people im sure create their own drums but i wouldnt mind trying something out like this if it exists.

Also im not talking about drum kit vsts to go with guitar or bass i mean house, electro, trance drums/claps etc;

I don't know about a "generator" that can analyze your song and then create a drum track to fit it perfectly...but man, you've got loops galore where you just pick the correct BPM, and stack-n-layer to your heart's content. You decide how simple or complex to make it.
I know you're asking for something completely automatic...but I bet even if there is something like that, you will STILL want/need to tweak and make adjustments...so why not at least program your own to taste.

Better still....hook up with a drummer and have him "generate" a drum track for you. ;)
There a few guys here on the forums that will even do that for you, some for free maybe and some for a few $$$ per track.
At least then you'll have an ass-kicking drum track that really fits the song and your production intent, instead of computer generated beats.

Just sayin..... :)

Ive been using loops but for some reason its as thought they dont properly stay in time with the melody. I surpose its all trial and error as im quite new to this.

then learn your DAW better....loops should stretch to the bpm of your track automatically

programming drums for trance tracks has to be one of the simplest tasks involving beats, and fruity loops is a great product for it...but you just need to practice or get midi files that you can add your own samples too...this is also a great way to learn how beats are constructed

tbh you'll never be satisfied with loops, the kick is just too important and needs its own treatment...but you can buy something called top loops, these are just the percussion and snare...then you add you own kick track, which is four on the floor...simples ;)

for top loops try zenhiser...http://www.zenhiser.com/products/Kick-Free-Trance-Beats-01.html

for kicks go to Wave Alchemy...they have some excellent free kick samples that really pop out of your track...bottom of the page club kicks 2 http://www.wavealchemy.co.uk/free-samples

also Goldbaby have freebies that are excellent as well...http://www.goldbaby.co.nz/freestuff.html :)
