I'm hoping someone who owns one can tell me if they get warm/hot...

I have 1 coming, and need to now if I should leave a space above it in the rack... (I'm running low on empty spaces...)

I know there's some tubes in there, but that doesn't really mean much if they're fed just 9 volts... :D

Thanks...

Depends..define hot

I have one and it gets warm; I wouldn't say that it gets hot. It certainly doesn’t get as hot as some other tube gear in the rack.

As far as rack location, it depends on what you plan to put above it but I’d still leave some space. Worse case, you could stick it in the top of the rack so the rising heat doesn’t affect anything.

Hope this helps…

Geez.... that didn't take long.... :D

The top space in this rack is reserved for my egg fryer... the Roland SRV-3030 Digital Reverb.... No tubes, but that thing gets HOT!!!!

The rack space I have available is an "open", desktop type 8 spacer, that sits on top of another rack.

I have a 1 space vent panel... I guess I'll have to use it....

By the way... I have a Behringer HA4700 Headphone amp, and that thing gets hot only on the bottom... figured that out last night... Ouch!!

Keep in mind that a somewhat massive (no pun intended) and cooler or non-used unit above will draw heat from the VLA - Perhaps more efficiently than air alone.

I have a rack mounted margarita maker that I now plan on mounting in the space above.... :D

Hey Massive, you're a big proponent of the VLA.... any tips, suggestions, comments, cautions??? Does year of manufacture make a diff???

You don't need to give the ART VLA any breathing room... it doesn't get that hot. You need to deliver a bit more current to the tube, and have a few more tubes than they do before things really start to heat up.

Most digital equipment runs hotter than most analog equipment... though some analog gear can get pretty toasty.

Peace.

Just plug in and enjoy.

Really, I haven't torn into enough of them to make note of particular differences from unit to unit. All I can tell you is that it's a solid working beast that has a nice but subtle color to it. Used gently, it can be just what the doctor ordered. Sort of a LA-2A flavor, but with somewhat more traditional controls.

There are a few websites out there that offer modifications to it also.
