Do any plug-ins approach Lexicon MPX-1 reverb?

I'd imagine TC-Electronics and Waves would be the front-runners. Anyone tried any of these?

The waves gold plug is ..... gold :D I've got the Tc native essentials and Native bundle as well, in my opinion they can't compete with waves

Doh!

I forgot to include "reverb" in the thread title.

Thanks for the response, bizarre. What do you think about the reverbs specifically? Have you tried any of the Lexicon hardware units?

oh - but I was refering intirely to the reverbs, yeah - I've used Lexicon, I think waves are just as good.... and VERY cpu hungry :)

yep, if you run 4 or 5 different Waves reverbs you are gonna bog it down....but lets see you hook up 4 or 5 Lexicons to a PC-DAW.....

Exactly! That's why I can't understand why I seem to hear so many complaints about plug-in reverbs being too resource hungry to exclude hardware. Assuming it sounds just as good, I can't see why anyone would choose hardware over plug-in. I think my Logic Platinum reverb sucks, and I think it's only about 20% user incompetence.

I've stated this before in another post but it may be worth mentioning again for the sake of argument, Homerecording Mag did an issue on plugins and the author picked TC as the best reverb and Waves as the best compressor. But, from what I can gather, Waves keeps turning up as most people's all-around favorite.

I don't think the TC verbs can compare to the Waves at any point, in my opinion the Tc verbs are a bit metallic and rough in the coding, Waves are very smooth - my all time favourites

Is the Renaissance Reverberator, found in the Renaissance Collection, the same reverb as in the Gold bundle, or is the Renaissance some 'light' version?

Yes. Lexicon's LexiVerb and Digidesign's Reverb One. LexiVerb has the sound of the modern Lexi units. ReverbOne is rumored to be reverse-engineered from a Lexicon PCM unit, and it definitely sounds more like the classicx Lexi sound than the modern sound.

However, (the catch) both are available only as TDM plugins for the Pro Tools TDM system on the Mac. Sorry. :(

I've never used the Renaissance Collection, so I can't answer that one, the verbs included in the goldbundle is named "RVerb" and "Trueverb" - I use trueverb - love it - I have had the RVerb loaded once, it just about squeezed the life out of my 'puter ( I was running Nuendo with several plugs and Reason - no wonder it was about dying ) so I guess I'll try the RVerb if I ever wanna add some master reverb in Sound Forge .. but I'm no fan of master verb sooo .... maybe I won't test it till the day I have a PIIII with 512Mb ram ;)

Hmm, reading that article I mentioned, the author talks about how he likes the TC interface and how it isn't too resource hungry- he never mentions how it sounds. He also says he generally avoids plug-in verbs since they're so resource hungry and recommends using an out-board unit for regular duty.

Guess that the dude who wrote that article looked more on the cpu than the sound, I agree with him that it is a good interface, and yes - good verbs are dam'n hungry, but I can live with that, I usually do the rest of the stuff first, maybe setting up a verb just to hear if I'm in the right direction, turn of the verb, load the ton of other plugs I wanna use ( I love effects :D ) then either bounce every track ( that is what I have done until now, I just got the thought that maybe it would be better to re-record the tracks with the effects, as bouncing makes them a little ... eeeh ... less lively ?? - dunno how to put it ) I'll try that in the project I'm workin' on now.
Well - after that bounce or re-recording i set up the verbs I wanna use, most common for me is to use 2 or 3 verbs

WOW!!! i jsut checked on Musicians Friend and WAVES GOLD is only $1899.00.

What a deal! :D

enemy,enemy,enemy...thats a TREMENDOUS bargain...especially comparing it to the MPX1....

first off, Waves just flat out sounds better........

ok, say you want to send some tracks thru a long reverb, some thru a short reverb, and then your vocals on a plate....youll need 3 MPX1's.....$2250 .......

Waves Gold $1899 will do those 3 reverbs plus whatever else your processor allows......that price is a Mac version........theres also different level packages.....
http://www.audiomidi.com/software/waves/goldnative/

you do the math......

The Renaissance Collection is *only* $250. Not bad esp. considering it's got the EQ and Compressor as well.

Charger, sorry to second guess you, I just want to be damn sure, how do you know it's the same reverb as the Gold bundle?

You can look at the Waves site if you want. www.waves.com.
The Renaissance Collection contains (among other things) the Renaissance Reverberator. The Gold Bundle contains everything Waves makes... so it contains the Renaissance Reverberator as well. IMHO, the Renaissance Collection is a great value, since it includes threee GREAT plugins: Renaissance Reverberator, Renaissance Compressor, and Renaissance EQ. All are excellent processors. However, the Gold Bundle contains a lot of really cool stuff too, especially the L1+Ultramaximizer. But I think the RVerb is the best reverb Waves makes... I wouldn't buy the Gold bundle to get Trueverb...

Thanks charger. It took me quite a while to figure that out at the website. It's not too specific about some things. Too many bundles/plugins with similar names.

I downloaded the demo "Waves audio processors" or something like that and it didn't even have Renaissance Reverb! I can't even find a download that specifically says Renaissance Collection although their magazine ads specifically say it's there.
