Can anyone confirm this?? I was trying to mic a condenser last night using an xlr-phono mic cable and not getting any signal. did the same thing using xlr-xlr and worked fine. has anyone else noticed this???

That is how it is supposed to be.

Phantom power on TRS is nothing less than dangerous.
When plugging in the jack, you'll always short the connections out for a fraction of a second. I'd say enough to do serious damage to the pre if there was phantom power running through it.
Apart from that the hi-impedance TRS input just is not suitable for microphones you'd normally use on low-impedance XLR connections.

yeah it makes sense though i have been able to use the same cable c/w phantom powered condenser on the line level input of one of my preamps which is included on my Hoontech c-port? . I geuss I need more xlr-xlr cables , got heaps of the other kind and only a couple of these..
cheers

Just bite the bullet and go to XLR / balanced cabling. It's not that bad and the difference between that and unbalanced stuff is pretty intense, even with the cheap stuff.

How do you like the DMP3? Mine has turned into an all-purpose solution box. It seems I'm always using that thing!
