Dmp3? Eh?

I was just woundering how much quality this little preamp has. I'm thinking about picking on up. I will be using this on bass, guitar and vocals. what would be the strong and weak points of this preamp?
 
oh I'll be recording on a VS-2400, if that would affect your opinion.
 
The DMP-3 is a very clean, neutral (and quiet) pre. I use it for voice , acoustic and drum overheads all the time. Any smaller studio should have one.It wont make your bass sound better but will faithfully reproduce it.

It's pretty cool.

Its 325 new at least on atlas, maybe you can find it cheaper on ebay or work over the salesman at guitar center/sam ash for a better price
 
Does anyone know about the differences between a DMP3 and the Soundcraft pres from an "M" series? Anyone used them both?
 
Chessrock, After reading a Sans Amp review I am very convinced that this is what would complete my Hartke rig. But that doesn't stop me from picking up a DMP3!
 
i use either the JoeMeek MQ3 or my J-Station for bass.....
 
I think I'm going to make the dmp3 my next preamp. There's only so much drum set that a Digi002 can handle on it's own.
 
I just ordered a DMP3, should be here tomorrow. Planning to use it w/ a pair of MXL 603's as drum overheads.
 
Here's a question: if you're using a four/six mic setup (2 OH, 1 Snare, 1 Kick or 2 OH, 1 Snare, 1 Kick, 2 Tom) which mics would probably benefit more from the upgraded preamps - the dynamics micing the kick and snare or the SDC's micing the OH's?
 
Upgraded from what? Any mic would benefit from a better preamp. I'd try an upgrade on the dynamics first, though. I bet that's where the big difference could be heard.

I use my DMP3 mostly for vocal mics, but one day I tried it with an SM57 and the thing sounded great - smooth and punchy; so much better than with my mixer's preamps, which still work OK.

The DMP3 is a versatile preamp; hard to go wrong with one unless you're looking for $3,000 performance.
 
Haven't heard those, but from what I have heard it would be surprising if the DMP3 was an improvement. It might sound a bit different though, and that could be useful. It's pretty quiet and made a believer out of me because I was using older Mackie preamps, which were kind of harsh. I also like the extra gain for dynamic mics; it allows me to hush the rest of the chain down a bit. I'd still try any upgrade first on the dynamics.
 
Hey justabassist (me too:)) what's in your Hartke rig? I played through their 410 combo (house set up at a gig) the other day and was very impressed. I use the Sansamp a lot and didn't think it would add anything to that - I do like it for that SVT sound but it's a bit noisy and doesn't have the gain of a proper pre.
