Just picked up a Maudio DMP2 for $40 (there's another one in slightly better shape for $60 at the same pawn shop in Houston - PM me if you want to know where it is). Sign of the economy, I guess, kind of depressing. I also saw an Avalon 737 and Focusrite VM Pro (for > ebay prices - they're stoned :D ) -- never seen stuff like that before in the pawn shops.

Anyway... anyone interested in hearing a DMP2 vs. DMP3 bake off?

I recollect that the DMP2 was pretty good with the only issue being weak phantom power.
 
damn at $40 they must of only gave the guy $10?:eek:

i think the economy will shed some gear...craigslist is busy round here.

I got a multimeter and tested -- both channels on the DMP2 came up to 50.4 volts (too high?) and both on the DMP3 came up to 50.2 volts. For comparison, my modded firewire-powered MOTU Traveler registered 40.7 on all 4 channels.

[oooh... check out antichef with the multi... meter... :cool:]

edit: should I measure again with a condenser mic attached to the other channel?

edit2: my Presonus Inspire 1394 (also firewire powered) was around 45 volts.

Yeah, I'd measure again with a condenser mic on one channel. That was a known problem with that preamp. Whether is has any practical implication for you depends on your mics. Some are fussier than others about really needing 48v. Many will work fine on less.
 
OK - I tried with an Oktava MK-319 and didn't see much sag on the other channel, so then I tried with an AKG C414B-ULS, and there was some. The DMP2 went down to 46.4 volts, and the DMP3 went down to an even 48. Doesn't seem like a big deal to me, but who knows?
 
OK - I did some sound tests, and I like the DMP2 pretty much the same as the DMP3 - that voltage issue doesn't seem to impact my mics at all.

And... I like it better than the DMP3, because its shorter, physically, which means I can put it on my rack tray -- the DMP3 is just tall enough to take more than 1U space. So, since nobody PM'ed me, I went and picked up the other one -- I'll rack'em up and have 4 channels. Only problem is that the phantom power button is on the *back* of the units :mad: - guess they fixed that on the DMP3. Anyway, I'll live with that.

Since that worked out pretty well for me, I'm going to give away my DMP3 in the want ads forum, with some sort of cockamamy voting scheme-thing. Check there if you're interested.
