Don't know about the Tascam, but speaking from experience I'd go Yamaha. Their digital mixers are very well designed and logically laid out. Plus the pre-amps on the latest generation (the '96' ones) are nice and clean - much better than the old Yammys.
Not really a user of their effects, but the compression and limiting are top notch, at least for broadcast work.
