Hi all, I have a bass pod I've hooked up to my DM's digital in 2L and 2R. I use the xlr type and it plays fine thru the DM's faders (assigned channels 21 and 22).

Now I'd like to send that signal to my MOTU 24o8 MKII . I been content with goin analog out of the bass POD into the analog in of the MOTU, but I know that it's not a good idea to go digital to analog to digital and/or vise versa.

Is there anyway I can send an output thru one of the (2)TDIF cables im already using? Or can I somehow assign it to a SPDIF out into the MOTU's inputs?

Can anybody tell me what/how that can be done?

thx in advance

If your pod has spdif, assign the output of the pod to the spdif. Connect the spdif of the pod to the spdif in of the 2408. Select the spdif input of the 2408 in your software. Hit record.

There is not going to be a significant improvement doing it this way.

Why will it not be an improvement? I thought the whole coverting back and forth (DA / AD or vice versa) was not advisable?

If you notice an improvement, that's cool. I just don't think there will be much of one. The sound you hear when you plug into the analog outputs is the sum of the sound+converters+your signal chain. If you take that out of the equation, it might sound different. Not necessarily better.

First off, I don't think your going to hear any improvement in sound quality. If anything you might get some digital jitter, if you don't have everything synced perfectly. (Make sure you hook up and have it setup properly with your word clock master).
