So why do you get defensive when people comment on your thread topic?

Comment is one thing constructive critiszm is in the same boat but insults you can keep

Also this is the internet so i am not held to spell everything correct I-net users generaly have their own "slang " so to speak where typing is concerned and spelling is not at the top of the list

For you to assume "you are an opressed black male living below the poverty line in a ghetto and people owe you something because you have seen things you don't think other people have seen?" Is a racist statement and an ignorant one none the less. Your clarification was point less because you make grammatical errors in your post as well.

Let me bring some clarity to this and let it be done People saw what they thaught was a controversial topic and they followed their own nature and began to contribute to what they considered to be a challenge or call for negativity. People individually are smart but collectively stupid. With that being said I'm out Spin I feel what you saying and my only reply is to say since I know i wont be contributing anything else positive to this thread I wont contribute any thing else at all to this thread. That should help diffuse it a tad bit.

aint nothin wrong with spelling things wrong on a forum..
ppl who cmmt on those kind of things are strange.

i only cmmt on the beats you opened yrself up to...fam

my bad i aint mean to hurt feelings..
just watch out b4 you build yr stuff up to be so great man
some of us "untalented" ppl have gone WAY past your level son.

IMO you got that 1994 sound dog.
I'm shooting for 2006 sounds.

i mean aint nothing wrong with old school though.
Throw back music...oldies.
You should try to find some old school rappers man..
like cool mo dee, or Kwame to rap 4 u

just joking man..keep it up.
i aint got no mp3s posted so its not really fair to come down.
but it was jolly good fun

No you are wrong. You read the internet and no one grows up being taught to read slang. There are exceptions....LMAO...OMG....brb.....afk.....but trying to type stuff out in hiphop slang in completely stupid and not natural to read.

And to further piss you off....

When people say, "you dont know me or where i'm from," there is generally two reasons why it is said.....

*One*
Because you are very well off and want people to think you are "down" and "hard"...

*Two*
Because you are dirt broke and someone makes note of it.

You are on the internet (not I-Net) so I am going to assume it is not the later. :D

my 2 cents so don't nobody take offense, puh-leeeze...

Thank you, Mr. Moderator. I just couldn't bring myself to do it.

Besides, I'm one of the guilty ones who types stuff in "hip-hop" slang. Thing is, when I was learning this "language," hip-hop as we know it didn't exist.

Off topic, but...
A quick study of language shows that Most African languages & dialects have heavy emphasis on the "B" and "D" sounds, similar to the French saying "Za" and "Zee" when speaking English. I'd have to imagine that carried over into slave speaking patterns, and thusly mine. Stands to reason then that Black America is chock full of "I be," "I like-ded it," and the like. And no, learning "king-speak" in school wouldn't AND SHOULDN'T erase that etymological phenomena, just add to a person's ways to effectively communicate with different people of different linguistic, cultural, and social backgrounds.

Damn, dude ain't gotta be "stupid," too, does he?

(from Outlaws) No you are wrong. You read the internet and no one grows up being taught to read slang. There are exceptions....LMAO...OMG....brb.....afk.....but trying to type stuff out in hiphop slang in completely stupid and not natural to read

I didn't grow up being taught to read slang/dialect-ized English, but I certainly grew up being taught to speak it. And, it's prolly a safe bet that if the internet had been available to us regular-folk back then instead of just scientists & military types, we all would've been reading the slang of the day back then, too.
"LMAO," "OMG," "brb," etc., isn't slang, anyways, just abbreviations of commonly used online expressions. It's completely "natural" for me to read in both my English, and yours, Outlaws. I wager knowing more than one language or style-of-speak makes one more adept to surviving in different environments, not less. One could argue that knowing two (or 3 or 4) "languages" makes one communicatively smarter than one who doesn't.

This is a music BBS. If you don't like someone's music, or if you do, say so. If you don't like how they speak (or write), get over it and do yourself a favor to try and understand where they're coming from. That's the key isn't it, understanding???

(this is where i'm supposed to say something about music being the universal language, second only to sex...)

How you speak doesn't make you sound stupid, what you say when you do does...

I know you already know that, Outlaws. Why you picking on this cat for his speaking, spelling, and typos? And for the record, you don't "know" me, and I don't fit either of your 2 generalizations. Most of us who may toss that phrase around prolly don't fall into those catagories, either. And to be fair, i don't "know" you. You can say the same thing and be a'ight, see?

Dat nukka who 'gon stay gold, regardless

I no listen.

But I do pretty much agree with the tone of the thread. You shouldn't ask for people's opinions & then denegrate 'em if they ain't feeling your shit. If you already got the answers, why ask the question? Hard for me to believe that everbody who offers up constructive critcism, or even just dogs your shit is flat out wrong, and people who feel it are just dead up "on it." The truth prolly lies somewhere inbetween. Imagine someone who you really respect. If they don't think you or your shit is all that, would they suddenly fall into the "You obviously have no clue" catagory?

I have nothing against people speaking in slang or with their cultural influences. But when you type stuff out and read it...it is just stupid and a pain in the ass. And you have to give me a break when people don't bother to seperate sentances and they stop using thing like comma and periods it get hard to read besides I proof reading can't get everything but it can get some things

I like hiphop by the way.

So what?!?

I like shrimp cerviche with my tortilla chips, not mexican-style salsa. And?!?

I never questioned whether or not you liked hip-hop music or not. It really doesn't matter. It's clear through my clouded vision you ain't too respectful of its' linguistic roots, nor do you care to be. Lots of people aren't, for sure, nor do they neccesarily need to be, but why expect the written page to be any different than the spoken word - unless it's by choice? I guess you'd page through an MC's notebook with a red pen making sure all the grammar was in order, then offer up a copy of The Elements of Style (and probably the version before E.B. White got down).

Sheesh...

Oh yeah...

...not my fault but...

...sorry your ass hurts.

See, we can all be STUPID jerks. That's easy. At least for a crotchety motherfucker like me, it is.

Maybe you should give yourself a break and quit busting dude's (i mean, everybody's) balls. Go pick a flower. Plant a tree. Debate with somebody about whether it's music because you played it on your guitar, even though you subconsciously jacked all of your favorite guitarists riffs, or music because it flows from the heart, through a sampler to capture a set of sounds and meld them into something previously unheard (or unheard of). Be nice to a stranger. Or, most importantly in this case, learn a new language or something (or at least something about it)...

Get well soon,

Wasn't this thread about Beatmakers' track or something? Damn. Since I haven't listened to it, I'll shut the fuck up now...

That is soooo cool you can quote things from people you think are inteligent. Maybe you should come up with you own thoughts on things rather than just quoting nonsense.

...and an MC's notebook isn't out in the public forum with the intent that people read it.

There is a thing called commercializing. I know its not a popular word because it is usually associated with "selling out", but the point is to reach as many people as possible. Most people don't read slang. Most people don't speak proper English either, including me, but most people still are open to things and have valid points to give you about music and writing things out in giberish is going to turn people off.

Diendildo,

Pick one of my songs and tell me what song the riff sounds like I ripped off.

If I quote myself, you'll call me an egoist.
If I quote you, you'll call me an antagonist.
If I quote people, whose words I admire, I'm showing off.

Some of us just aren't as capable of being as original as you.

If I had quoted an MC expressing something similar with slang, how "inteligent" would you think I was trying to make myself appear then?

Peep this: i ain't trying to be all in your grill and shit. You made some comments, I did the same. The only sarcasm was the "sorry your ass hurts" part, but you gotta admit that shit was funny.

Don't matter whether poets write it down (oh yeah, and they do recite their own shit, too, ya know), or spit it on a rap record. It's all the same. Histories used to only be passed down via spoken word, complete with the language nuances, dialects, slang, and colloquialisms of the day. And guess what, genius-boy, when people finally started to document that shit by writing it down, nothing changed. Same old nuances, same old dialect, same old slang, and so on.

1. Most people don't read slang.

2.Most people don't speak proper English either, including me...

3....but most people still are open to things and have valid points to give you about music and...

4....writing things out in giberish is going to turn people off.

My responses:
1. True

2. True

3. I agree

4. What you call "giberish", I call expressive, emotive, articulate, and far more engaging & interesting to read than any of the shit that comprises what the English you think we should all be writing looks like. I know, I know, today's slang & various dialects are derivatives of that very same English, but I'd rather drive mycar, complete with all the non-standard modifications I love so very much than just a car because it is "the original" (style) of automobile.

<There you go. I quoted myself. Derivative of a pretty cliched saying, but all mines, nonetheless. Or, did I just sample & remix someone else? Hmmm...>

There is a thing called commercializing. I know its not a popular word because it is usually associated with "selling out", but the point is to reach as many people as possible.

Did you ever think that we (who write in the manner you think so stupid) don't give a shit if people who aren't into the music or culture understand it, or not? Did you ever think that those who do really get into the music end up ADOPTING a lot of that verbiage & dialect, even when writing (to those who they know understand) - including white, surburban folks, country boys in country, and hillbillies on the hill? Rap music & Black American culture didn't ask to be commercialized for anybody for any reason. Nor did DnB, House (of any flavor), or any other style of music. Funny thing is, it happened, anyway. Go figure. And, before you get too stuck in this whole thing of "gibberish," remember this:

More than likely, the person who thought it'd be "cool & hip" to have some thirty-something, White American housewife "scratching" dj-style on her stovetop to show that the 409 side gets cleaner than the Brand-X side was probably not a b-boy (of any race). There was a time when The Gap didn't give 2 shits about urban kids buying their shit, so they didn't market to them. There was a time when Wrigley's didn't need to turn the grocery store into a rave with a girl dj scratching Doublemint over the bar code scanner. There were no commercials with 50-somethings "Celbrex-ing" over watered down, keyboard demo-styled R&B. Oh yeah, let's not forget MTV playing straight r&b and radio hip-hop in every damn show/interview/snippet they air - even if it's a Black Sabbath flashback interview or Coldplay outtake. There was a time when mainstream America didn't think that shit was cool at all. But still they ride...

By your implied set of what "should be" standard, uh, I mean "commercialized," we should all be using whatever lingo country music fans use, as that's the largest portion of the radio (and thusly fans?) stations in this country. Sorry doc, I ain't a new country fan, and do my best to never give directions that start or end with "down the holler," or call people "buddy roll." No probs from me for people who do, though. Like I said, Different 'flaves' for different slaves.

Sometimes, pandering to the lowest common denominator isn't the best way to get your point across to the people that matter TO YOU. If you wanna know "what time it is," and effectively communicate, then maybe you need to learn a little how the locals speak. I mean, I'm not gonna learn Spanish simply because every other store in my neighborhood (city?!?) is owned by Spanish-speaking people and many don't even have signs of any sort in English. At least not until Spanish becomes our 2nd official language. And, I'd be first in line to vote against it. Don't ask me why, you already know. Mind you, when I lived overseas, I became fluent in a couple languages because I had no choice if I wanted to effectively communicate with the people around me.

Besides, don't you know that speaking a language is one of the first steps to being able to read it? You're halfway there if only you'd try...

Dude didn't ask you to correct his written grammer about his track or whatever, only the fucking track itself. Pushy ass... Wish I could be as right as you think you are, even half the time.

Finally, before you start correcting cats on the how's & why's of good writing, pass the goddamn class yourself.

All that to say, either bob your head, or just bow down.

Respectfully,

DJ Dolo

I never heard any of your shit. The "you" meant anybody. Get your head out of your ass and you (meaning y-o-u, Outlaws) won't be so "pained." Trust me on this.

If I'm a dildo, then consider yourself well-fucked, kid.

I didn't wanna take it there. Why you make this a win-lose situation? You have every right to your opinion, and I respect that. If you don't want people to have the opportunity to co-sign, question, or challenge what you say - shut the fuck up.

Crack jokes & call me names - fine. We can still play nice if you (meaning y-o-u, Outlaws) let us. Otherwise, I'm gonna take my ball and go home.

In fact, I think i'll do that, anyway.

"Rap music & Black American culture didn't ask to be commercialized for anybody for any reason."

Are you kidding me?! The second it is was put on wax and SOLD, it was commercialized. That act of selling is commercial. One copy or a million copies. It was good. It sold. But only because the people involved wanted to.

Plus I think you missed my point al together, I only refering to nothing more than typing on the net in "English". I don't care if you talk in what ever you want to call it. If you want to write like that on the record and things fine....believe it or not, I have a blackbook ;). Its just that on the net the whole thing does not lend itself very well. "showtz outz ta my homeez" and other BS like that is an eyesore when in the context of a paragraph. Record, fine. Paragraph, not.

wOw

didnt listen - gotta ck' it out tho

outlaw - all language evolves over time thru usage - or else we'd be typing in latin or old english
