Just bought a double CD of his recordings. Got to put the headphones on this weekend.

Hard to believe he he can jam like that with fingers missing. Still one of my all time favs.

i think he was a mindbreaker for all modern guitarists.
There are some really great recordings from bout '34 till '36 of Reinhardt with the (at those days) young violinist Stephane Grappelli.

One thing that surprised me with Django was his use of string bending and vibrato.

...and I thought B.B. King invented that...:)

The tune I posted is from "Djangology 49".Django was older and ill and this was his final session with Grappelli, recorded in a hotel ballroom in Italy where Django was booked for the season.Listen for the cigarette cough at the one minute mark.He obviously has a lot of fluid on his lungs.
The Italian sidemen were in awe of Django.Listen to him take control of the tempo after the piano solo. His rhythm playing is awesome. We don't need to speak about his hands, but just TRY to duplicate his playing with all your fingers functional!
I work for a music company called RBI.One of our former employees was Zeke Campbell, who played lead guitar for the Light Crust Doughboys.I saw them in a Gene Autry movie from the 30s and Zeke's solos were obviously Django based.Even cowboy music was heavily influenced! What to speak of Charlie Christian, generally credited with being the first "modern" guitar soloist.

Was at the Django festival last year at Birdland. It truly was amazing. Met and spoke to Les Paul. He was there to open the night.

Frank Vignola and Angelo Debarre were stunning.
