DJ/Hip-Hop/Rap/Beat..... At Large or Orphan Child of HR.com?

It’s easy to notice that the DJ/Hip-Hop/Rap/Beats forum has its own thing going. A lot of mixes being posted, technical questions, etc… things that, some might argue, belong in other forums.

Now, I have no problem with it. I’m just wondering why? Is it the independent nature of Hip-Hop and Electronica producers – are people not finding the help or respect they need in other forums – or maybe it’s just a sense of community?

What do you think?

PS – that being said, as an Electronica producer I feel a bit like an orphan child of the DJ/Hip-Hop/Rap/Beats forum.
 
Most people here at HomeRecording.Com are playing an instrument in a band. Often, these people don't see any form of music in Hiphop and Techno (I'm not accusing anyone here) (Shit, they're even wondering if a DJ is a musician if he uses autotune :D). Posting our mixes and our beats in the The MP3 Clinic let's say would get us lot of unwanted response about our musical style. Also, there's no forums about the samplers we use (OK maybe the Other Equipment forum)... So everything technical is grouped there... Most of the things asked there wouldn't fit in any other forum... So we built our little community... We get out of our crib to talk about mics and that's about it...

I hear you B. One of the problems I see, though, is that there doesn’t seem to be a whole lot of solid "expert advice" floating around this forum - especially with respect to mixing techniques and such. If you look in Mixing/Mastering you’ll find a lot of knowledge about how to put a mix together (and a lot of misinformation too). But, kind of like you said, if you or I try to post a specific question in that forum about a mixing problem we’re confronting, we’ll often tend to get answers like "Hey, just do what you want. There are no rules in electronic music because it’s not 'real' music anyway."

So, I’m not sure what the answer is. Community is great, but if you don’t have the knowledge base it’s hard to grow.

Ok I will have my music board up within the next week.... It will have specific sections for all types of music and recording etc


to include:

one just for DJ's

one for House, electronica, & Techno

one for Hip Hop cats (1 for instrumentals, 1 for songs)

Also ones for Blues/Jazz - Pop - R&B


Recording - Mixing - Mastering


and as I am structuring it as we speak any suggestions you have I will include in the Board..... It is v bulletin the same type as hr.com..........................


So please any suggestions are more than welcome....ok I am done spamming :) :) :)

OK, I know I have been spamming (mildly), my accesory chat to this.... But It's related to this board, and we even offered Dragon a chance to incorporate it into the bbs (haven't heard back yet)

Plus while people are chatting on my chat... they are posting on the bbs.... so it's good for hr.com's "business"....It keeps 'em online.. (Ok, well thats not proven, but it's MY theory):)

But to spam a competative BBS on a BBS.... AHHHHHHHH!

I'm glad Im not you right now...:eek:

Thanks B, but I don’t think a separate forum is necessarily the answer. I personally feel a lot of brotherhood with hip-hop producers. We steal many of the same beats!:D

I guess I’m just wishing this forum had a few more really knowledgeable members contributing and much less of the "hip-hop hype" I see everywhere. Also I’d like to see DJ, Electronica, and Hip-hip music taken a little more seriously in the other forums. That’s probably the ideal situation in my mind.

i feel pretty much like that myself... i like helping out on synth and sequencer questions alot, but it would be nice with a place for other people than hip hop and rock people... there is no place at all for house, trance or electronica producers, and those scenes are as big as the hip hop scene... but the title here in dj/hip hop/rap/beats relates only to hip hop & rap... of course also to dj's but why couldn't it be called something like "electronic music forum" or similar, cause the scene goes WAY beyond hip hop and rap...

no... electronica is a subgenre of electronic music (what used to be called techno, as in technological music)... whoops...

and VOXVENDOR, he actually ain't posting a competitive BBS, cause the problem is that those subjects are poorly, if at all, covered in this bbs... apart from hip hop and rap...

Well, I guess it depends on who you ask. Anyhow, all this categorization is one of the things I find very annoying about "Electronic Music". Let’s just say it’s all good and get on with making music. :D

You live in a western industrialized country – stress is built into the system. The power hungry flesh mongers want us to be stressed, so we’ll keep running on their treadmill. It’s not an "evil conspiracy" per se. It’s just the collective defective nature of those who feel they need to be in charge.

Just step off the stressmill. Smell the flowers. Make some music. It’s good for you and it’s good for the rest of us.:)
