this would be a try before you buy type of thing. It's pretty inexpensive at $140 at *shudder* guitar center, but I would worry about the "scratching" capabilities, among other things. Maybe something cool to learn on. It seems like it would be hard to try it tho (in store), check the return policy, and "rent" one maybe. Don't throw down your green unless you know what you are getting.
 
I always buy it, try it, and if I don't like what I got in 30 days, get a refund. Of course this is if I can't just rent one from a music store.
