all right. i know what dithering is and why you use it and all that stuff. but my question is when do you use it. specifically with Pro Tools LE.

should i put a dither plug in on the master? if i do this, will it make a difference when i bounce to disk? if i tell it to bouce to 16 bit, is that going to effect it, or is this just if you plan to master to a dat or some kind of digital media?

OR

should i just bounce to disk at 24 bits and dither it in toast or jam or whichever of those?

basically, when do i dither?

sorry for all the questions.

thanks

I know very little on the subject, but I imagine dithering would occur as the final step in mastering. That way all of the processing can be done at 24 bit.

does anybody know the difference between the toast and pro tools dithering methods? i would think that pro tools has a better algorhythym
