distance mic to guitar

i play a semi and sing. i was recording through a singal mic for both then re-recording the guitar again. now i'm looking to buy a second mic more than likely in the m-audio range. what is the preferred distance from mic to guitar when recording

Try 12 inches, to start, and point it towards the 12th fret.

thx. do you know which range of mic would be good for guitar recording. m audio is my likely choice of range. would i be wrong going for that make.

I've heard good things about the Solaris. Is that the one you were thinking of? Dunno about the others, I only use dynamics
