How do you get your voice to sound like that nice, baritone sound that is, like, slightly....dirty and grungy? It's hard to describe. Not screaming, but you get a little dirt with the pitch. Ok, I suck at describing this, so let me just give you some bands with this vocal sound and maybe you'll understand what I'm trying to say: Puddle of Mudd, Seether, Nirvana, Metallica, Staind.

Hang in there until you progress past the age of 14.

Sorry.

This reminds me of that 'Brady Bunch' episode.

Part of it will be your natural sound, and part could be from equipement. Try and find some plugins, if you use the computer to mis. This can help find small amounts of distortion, if you want that sound. Alot will have to do with how your voice sounds naturally.

Have you tried smoking 3 packs a day for 10 years? Seriously, if I want an edgier sound I record as late as possible when my voice starts to tire. Then I push it for all it's worth. I'm pretty certain that the music school folks don't use or endorse this technique, Dave.

this has nothing to do with any mic tricks, getting that sound requires chugging whiskey and smoking cigarettes from the age of 14 until you die in your 20s
