I am going to recording directly. Does anyone recommend the POD or anything similair to it?

thanks,

Insufficient data, dude. Record what music with what instruments into what board for what purpose?-Richie

sorry. i am using guitars and going into the mrs-4 by zoom. i generally play rock and roll. sometimes heavy and sometimes soft. i want something that will give me versatility and quality without breaking the bank. i would like to spend under $250 if possible.

thanks

Why invest money to record directly? It will never be as good as the real thing. I'd look around for a good used amp and mic it. There won't be as much versatility but it's not an imitation.

Behrenger VAMP II
However, I agree with the above post. Mic your amp (Shure SM57 and a mini boom stand). For real fun, try this- VAMP II into a Samson Servo 120 poweramp (wicked clean) into the 8 ohm speaker of whatever amp you use, and mic that. The VAMP will give you the distortions, etc., The Servo drives the speaker at a much lower volume than cranking your amp, so neighbors/parents don't bust your balls, and the mic will pickup the ambience/resonence of the speaker cab. Trick the ZOOM into thinking you're playing a cranked up combo amp! Best of luck-Richie
BTW, you can get VAMP II and the power amp for about the price of POD 2.0 floor model, actually less.

i am mic'ing my amp but i am looking for some different sounds and some cool effects so thats why i asked about the POD and others. i was looking at the Digitech rp-200 or the zoom 505II. any comments on those two boxes?

thanks

hey Vampire lestat,

I record all my stuff direct.. I have a few different things but I can tell you this, the POD is better than the Digitech.. I record a bunch of different styles sometimes quite heavy and I have heard I get some halfway decent guitar sounds. I have a Pod Pro, (has basically the same sounds as the Pod, a Sansamp GT2, a Digitech 2112, a Korg G-1 distortion processor, and a J-Station.. Each one has something cool about it and is good for something different..

The J-Station is quite good and is only $150

I have had good results using a J-Station...for the price ($150 or so), it's a pretty good deal (plus it has bass settings).

i guess i am looking at these boxes now,

POD v2.0
DigiTech RP-200
Zoom 505II
J-Station

what are your thoughts on those?

thanks again for all your help

...forget the Digitech. I have the RP-100 (same as the 200 without the expression pedal and larger screen), and I can't ever get the sound I'm looking for. But then, I don't like recording direct at all (maybe this is why).

Also, forget the Zoom. I used a 505 for a while and though I haven't recorded with it, I think it sounds pretty harsh and digital.

I've heard some nice tracks done with a Pod, but I don't have any first hand experience.

All of this, IMHO.

The majority of the great 60's motown hits had guitar and bass recorded direct.
Asking which box is best is like asking where's the best place to get a pizza, the answers will vary wildly.
In the end it's the total picture, the guitar, preamp, and recording medium.
Learn to use whatever you end up buying and tweak the settings.I find most presets pretty obnoxious.
Be realistic,if you don't find the sound in your head find one that interests you and go with it.
Most importantly remember that the sound that sounds great by itself may sound like doo doo when it's mixed in with everything else and the wimpy lame-o sound might sit perfectly in the mix when alls said and done.

EXPERIMENT,EXPERIMENT,EXPERIMENT
Some of the best sounds I've ever got were happy mistakes!

GOOD LUCK!

This Servo 120 dealie thingie... It'll drive a regular cab like a 4x12 with the same load as a cranked head, but at a lower volume? isn't that like that uh... ampeg powerbrake or whoever makes it? And it's really effective?

What about using a preamp or a direct box instead of micing a cab? (I live in an apartment complex. hehehe...) Any thoughts on that?
