Hi All,

I want to learn some of your experiences about direct recording acoustic guitar.

I want to record directly my Guild (with saddle pickup installed) instead of micing it. (just because i want a different sound). Many songs as this behavior in the last decade.

What are the most helpful hints you could provide regarding Compression, EQ (i think this is the most important issue) or else to get decent results?

Maybe this was discussed in the past, so just give me the link. I don't want to bug you with this kind of request.

Thank you for sharing.

Here's some of my gear :

- Acoustic Guild (Saddle pickup with on board EQ)
- Line6 POD (using Tube Preamp with no Cabinet emulation)
- DAW with Waves Gold plugins

I've found the Tech21 Sansamp Acoutic DI to be one of the best buys for recording direct acoustic. It's an active DI with tube mic emulation that really warms up the sterile sound of DI guitar. The tube emulation also adds a bit of compression. I have a sample in mp3 format. It has a section of direct, then mic, then direct/mic blend. Sansamp Acoustic DI Sample

Stunning ! This is what i'm looking for

This is convincing me !!!

BTW, What is your guitar ?

I listen to all your mp3, great !

Thank you

JR#97,

Here's some experiment i want to shear:

I studied the Tech21 stuff and found out (as you explainded) that this device emulate a tube preamp and a microphone as well as a DI box. Correct me if i'm wrong.

I own a POD and the Antares microphone modeler DX plug-in (I use Sonar DAW). So i tried some set-up and finally after tweaking it up the sweet sound i was looking for. I was amazed by the results...

I use the POD Tube Preamp with no cabinet and the Neuman KM 184 with slight tube saturation. I'll send you some short MP3 in the next days to have your advice.

Thank you for the hint. I will surely look for this Tech21 device in nearly future for using it in live performance.

See the mic modeler at :

I have used mic modeller before. nice plug-in.

I bought the tech21 mainly for live. I hate the raw piezo sound and the tech21 helps there a lot. It also works great for live with my nylon string.

My guitar is a high end Washburn. It's great for recording because it doesn't have a boomy bottom end. Thanks for compliments! Can't wait to hear your stuff.

Nice acoustic work JR. I really liked it when the CAD GXL2400 kicked in. Of course, the blend of both sounded stellar.

I've had good luck with the AG Stomp Box. However, once I switched to the Fishman Prefix Plus (so there's a mic inside the guitar, as well as a pickup), I just jack it into any good preamp. I've had my best luck with the Joemeek twinQcs. Here's a link- check "Goody's Song" That was recorded DI.-Richie
