okay, so I was talking to my friend about how he wanted an interface that he could record 2 inputs at the same time and then mix them separately afterwards, and for any of you that can remember, this is the exact thing I couldnt do with my xenyx x1222usb. But with a bit of research we found that you need usb 2.0 to be able to do that. Can someone confirm that?
Also, my thread before was about the metronome being to quiet, and the main message I got was that my monitoring volume should be different to the recording volume, which after watching hundreds of youtube videos it seems my setup is unable to do that. So could I turn every input down when I record and then turn it up in ableton?

what is your monitoring set up?
signal chain from interface audio out> etc

You can pan two input channels opposite, and record two separate mono tracks at once with your mixer.

hmmm, slightly confused, explain more could you?

um well I think I know what you mean, so the output would go via usb back to the mixer, then headphones plugged into the phones out. sorry if I misunderstood the question

The xenyx essentially sends two mono tracks via USB. In your software (DAW) open two tracks. Assign ones input to 1(L), and the other track to 2(R). Viola, two separate tracks. :)

Nope. You would need a USB2.0 or firewire interface with more inputs to do more than two.

ah okay, I'll tell my friend that, because he wanted to record either guitar or keyboard with vocals at the same time so only 2 tracks so that may cut down his costs considerably

actually wait, do all mixers with usb 1.0 only send 2 mono tracks?

why not record the piano first to tracks 1 and 2 (stereo piano)
then track to vocals later to track 1
this way you can pan the piano tracks a little 1Left and 2 Right you will get a bigger piano sound to fill up the sound stage.
Pan the vocal centred.

he could do that, but I think he wants to record both at the same time
