hello. i have it whirlwind edb1...is it save to run it out of the speaker out of my bass amp (with the pad at -20dB or -40 dB, of course) and then run the xlr to the board, and the parrallel 1/4" out to my speaker cab. i've heard that running a DI from a speaker out might damage it, but is it safe with the -40dB pad?

I use a Whirlwind Imp II, and you plug the bass cord into it, a mic cable into the board or whatever you need low Z for, and run another cord to the amp.

but then your amps characteristics are not going through the pa. the imp doesn't have the pad switch, so it makes sense that you would do it that way...i was wondering if the -40 dB pad on the edb1 makes it safe enough to send it from the amps speaker out.

Look at the manual. Some DIs will handle speaker level and some won't. Looking at Whirlwind's website the EDB1 doesn't appear to accept speaker lever. Their HOTBOX models specifically mentions speaker level input where as the others don't.
