Hiya,

Considering a pickup upgrade for my Jackson DK2M, wanting something that can handle high gain, but still have some character. Currently got Seymour Duncan humbuckers: a TB-4 JB at the bridge, and an SH-2N Jazz at the neck. Wondering if evo's are the way to go, anyone any opinions/alternatives?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LQb6FMN2YH8 Thats me with the Jackson on the right, all tracks of guitar on this tune are my guitar.

EDIT: Been doing some googling, d-activators look interesting too...

Cheers

The Evolutions sound very Steve Vai - if you're after that, they're a good pickup for you.

The DActivators, well... I had a 1527 with a DA7 set in it for a while. They were cool pickups, but absolutely not for me. Dimarzio was trying to nail the EMG sound in a passive pickup, and they really nailed it - very bright, kind of thin, and exceptionally compressed in a way that works well through a wall of gain, but wasn't that inspiring for the bluesier, lower gain lead stuff I like to do (think somewhere between Satriani and Gilmour). They're actually remarkably like singlecoils clean, just with a LOT more output and less dynamic range.

Can you give a little more insight into what sort of sound you're after, over and above high gain but with character?

Cheers dude, did you give the tune a listen? That'd give you some idea. Its basically hard rock/metal i guess!

Can't watch Youtube from work - I'll try tonight.
