So I have a few multitrack sessions in the digital domain, 44.1Khz, 24 bit.
I'll be mixing down to an analog r2r deck. I'm using -14dBFS as 0dBu. Or trying to anyway...I have to hit the deck with pretty hot levels so that hiss isn't too bad.
Once I have a nice mixdown on tape, I then need to digitize it again...how hot should I record? I don't want to clip my ADC, and I don't want to have the mix be so hot that a ME doesn't have room to work...but too low levels and I'm losing fidelity, no? Where should my peaks (for program material) be at?
