Digitech guitar processor

hi
i'm about to get a new amp emulator/effects processor
i have 2 options: Digitech RP50 or Digitech RP100
can you please share with me what you know about the specific differences between these two, to help me make my decision.
other than the obvious (the info that's given on digitech.com),
is there a reason why i should buy RP100($100) rather than RP50($60)

what i really care about is the amp simulator and the sound quality
i'm not really concerned about the fancy effects

I wouldn't really count on these digitechs to "really" sound like real amps. I would look at the Behringer V-Amp, Line 6 POD, or Johnson J-Station to get better sounds. And even these would probably sound better if you split the signal and miced your amp and ran it direct as well.

Hey, Stengah.

I used a Digitech RP50 to record the song in my signature line. I like it a lot. The tuner is great. You might want to look at the RP80. It's an RP50 with an expression pedal. Or, if you have a volume pedal you can plug that into the RP50 to use as an expression pedal.

For $60, you can't go wrong. The tuner feature is worth $60!

I recently bought a Digitech and run it through a PoD to sweeten the sound. The PoD is nice by itself but but you don't get that vintage "Digitech" tone.

my brother owns a 10 year old Digitech rp 5 (or something)

its a kick ass thing if you wanna have fun, yeah, plug in a mic and it works great too. But i wouldn't use it for recording...the distortion sounds like shit compared to our Marshall jcm900 (with hiwatt speakers) ..

i bought a Tech21 PSA-21
its a distortion unit, amp simulator....didn't use it yet, but i heard nothing but good from it....well...mostly... so its like a V-amp or line6 ... but in 19" rack form....and more expensive of course..

i checked out the Behringer V-Amp; it's pretty neat.
i might consider getting that one.
it's more expensive though: around 150.
seemed to me that they focused on the amp emolator features more.

I'm definitely getting BASS V-AMP.
it says BASS, however it also has amp selections for guitar, acoustic, keyboard.
that's what i needed, something for bass and guitar.
i suggest it to everyone
especially if you want to use this with different instruments.
i was gonna have to get another processor just for bass, if i got the guitar only version of this one.
only thing is you sacrifice about 3/4 of the number of guitar amps you would get with the only guitar version.
it's ok to me.

by the way, to drummers: can you play the tableture on my last post. interesting usage of polyrhythmics.

Digitech rp100 genesis and J Station

Rp100 and Rp50 are ok for recording, they are all by the same company. Digitech, Boss, Johnson and Lexicon are one(part of the harmon group in Sandy Utah), I dont see alot of difference over the RP100 than a J Station in the quality of the sound...just different usable tones...

I own a Digitech GNx3, Vox ToneLab and a Bass V-Amp. I use them all. The one that emulates amp sounds the best is the ToneLab. These amp sounds are right on the money.

You get to pick between an AMP and a CABINET. Some of the choices are:

AC30, AC30TB, AC15, AC15TB, Fender Tweed 4x10, Tweed 1x12, Blackface 2x12,
UK Blues, UK68P, UK80's,90's,modern, RECTO,US HIGH GAIN, BOUTIQUE OD&CL.

Some Cabinets are:
Vox- AC15,30, Fender Black 2x12,Tweed 2x10,4x10,1x12,etc.

You get PEDAL effects, Comp, Acoustic,VoxWah,Octave,Treble Boost, Tube OD, Fat OD, Fuzz.

Modulation: Chorus,Flanger,Phaser,Tremolo, Rotary.
Delay: Tape and Multi Echo
Reverb: Spring,Plate and Room.

I run my Bass and Keyboards through it as well. It has a S/P Dig Out for recording.

I have owned alot of digitech processors. They have their place, and I have had good luck with all of them. Let me make a suggestion also for the Korg Pandora PX4. This thing will knock your socks off. I have not used it live, but I have ran it through a PA board, recorded with it, and practiced alone with it. The sound is excellent. This is my first Korg product and I am impressed. I have 35 years of experience under my guitar strap, have used alot of processor equipment in both recording and live situations. Give this a try, you might be impressed yourself.
 
Depends on what your going to use the digitech for?

Digitech's don't have good distortion. If your recording DI for demo's I'd save money and buy a Pod. Not as good as going through an amp, but not all of us have a choice.

I bought the Behringer Bass V-amp Pro.
I like it; it has just what i need.

Digitech is bang for your buck stuff. For modeling, Line 6 is probably has the best digital modeling I have heard. The spider II head is pretty versatile. I used to own one a while ago.. it blew up after a few hours of owning it.. went KRAKKLE and saw a giant blue flash and smoke came out of it and it stunk....Kinda put a damper on my quest for a good modeling amp. Thats when the straw broke the camels back and I started buying the REAL STUFF and not the IMITATION stuff. Its only a matter of time before you snap too.

why do I buy the imitation stuff?
-I would need amps+mikes+preamps and stuff for bass AND guitar, which I would love, however I'm very broke.
-also even if I had money, I can't make noise here, not even a small amp.
that's why I turned to digital.
Behringer Bass V-amp pro is pretty solid, no blue flame balls, no crackles, no smoke. It's tight.

Indeed you are very correct. It was using strictly digital modeling for your main sound for a band or recording that I try to stay away from. I own my own Digitech RP200 for practice when loud noise is not neccesary. Headphones and a guitar cable and you're all set. I even use it to record scratch tracks in the studio - it's very easy to hook up and is fun to mess with.
