digital scrubbing

hello everyone...
a newbie to the board and to the world of home recording. i am a Cajun fiddle player at work on self-producing a Cajun CD using the VL-160 digital workstation.
On one of the songs we were recording, i noticed a sonic "burp" if you will, a pop. i was able to isolate the moment on the first fiddle track. and using digital scrub i found exactly where the blip was located. from there i was clueless as to what i should do....can anyone suggest a course of action....i tried and ended up ruining the take......que sera....

i have already learned so much from y'all....enjoying the discussions and the threads. thanks for your time....

I too had to delete a bump in a trackn last week. You do understand how to set the start and end points and then delete that little millisecond of space, right? Using track edit? If there's a note at the same time, you'll lose it.

Select SCRUB and use the jog shuttle to find the point where your mistake began. Select STORE and IN. Move the jog shuttle to the end of your miscue and select STORE and OUT. Next hit EXIT followed by EDIT. Under EDIT move the jog shuttle to ERASE. The Fostex will ask you to select a track. Select the track where your mistake is located and, in response to the cue “erase track,” hit YES. Rewind and listen to your changes. If your not happy, hit REDO. Just to be safe, you may also want to make a copy of the track before editing. To copy, rewind to the beginning of the trach and elect STORE and IN under the CLIPBOARD section. The hit PLAY and FF to move to the end of the track. Next select STORE and OUT, again under the CLIPBOARD section. To copy the track, select EDIT>COPY. The Fostex will ask if you want to paste the copied clip. I usually hit EXIT rather than yes. Then I select IN (on the left side under PUNCH IN) to double check the IN point. It should be zero. If not, use the jog shuttle to set it to zero. You can also hit PLAY>REWIND followed by STORE>IN. Once the IN point is set, select EDIT>COPY/PASTE and select your track (hopefully an empty track where you want your copy to end up).

This seems cumbersome, but after you do it a couple of times its really rather simple.Good luck!
 
thanks for your suggestions.....i tried something like what y'all suggested, but i didn't save a copy and clipped too much of the track.....it's humbling to make such a bonehead mistake. i'll have to do another take of the song and will be a bit more organized in my approach next time. live and learn!!!

As mentioned, don't forget the UNDO or REDO key. After playback, if you don't like what you cut out, or left in, just punch UNDO and you're right back to the step prior to the edit. Works like a charm. Just make sure you check results before moving onto another record operation or the UNDO function will no longer apply to the edit mistake.
 
okay, i just need to be told how to post as an mp3....uh, do i save the file as a wav. file? sorry for my denseness...then how do i post it to the group?
don't worry, my fiddle playing is more accomplished than my recording technique
 
I went through this aqgony with the group here about 4 months ago, and I still haven't got mp3 #1 posted (not that that is this group's fault). The consensus seems to be that if you have a CD burner on your machine, make a CD (not a Wav file), load the cd on to your computer, and do a conversion to mp3 with a converter that you can dowmload off the net or buy at Office Depot for $25 - $30. then you post the mp3 to your website
and then give us a link to that site. Nice speech, eh? Too bad I haven't yet accomplished it myself, this because putting an mp3 on a website is no small accomplishment for a simpleton like me. But hey, I'm getting closer!.

p.s. - I jammed once with Sonny Landreth and separately once with the fiddle player for Beausoleil, whose name I have forgotten.
